Poetry Madness: Round 2, Game 2


In Round 2, you need to choose your winner based on the following criteria:
  • Which poem's meaning is more important to you?
  • What personal connection can you make?
  • Which poet's craft do you enjoy more? Poet's craft can include repetition, word choice, rhyme, simile/metaphor, etc.
 Make sure your answer is detailed and explains the three bullet points.

  1. The first poem, Roger the Dog, is about a owner getting tired of his lazy dog who is not good for anything. I can tell from this poem that the owner does not like his dog.

    The second poem, The Falling Star, is about someone watching a shooting star and how the only thing you can do is wish upon the star.

    My favorite poem is The Falling Star. It is my favorite because I love the passion in this poem and that it has this magic feeling. I also like how it rhymes.

  2. I choose the poem Rodger the Dog because I loved how it reminded me of my dog, Casey.

    My dog is all ways hogging the vents, and sleeping ALL day. The poem If did not really remind me of something, and I had a hard time understanding it.

    The poet really made you feel like you were there. I also loved how creative the poet was when he wrote the rhymes.

    I CHOOSE RODGER THE DOG!!!!!!

  3. The first poem, Roger the Dog, is about a dog that is very lazy and likes to sleep.

    The second poem, If, is about someone saying "if you could......."

    I like the first poem, Roger the Dog, because it reminds me of when I am very tired and sleepy, and want to go my own pace. I like it because it has no repetition.

  4. The first poem, Roger the Dog, is about a very lazy dogs owner who's getting tired of his dog being so lazy.

    The second poem, Who Has Seen The Wind, is about a person who is talking about who you know when the wind is passing by near you.

    I chose the poem Roger The Dog because I liked the way the poet put every two lines together and used line breaks for every two lines of words.

  5. The first poem,Roger the Dog, is about a lazy dog who sleeps by the fire and only wakes up to scratch a flee.

    The second poem,Who has Seen the Wind, is about a person saying he has never ever seen the wind. He says how to see the wind too.

    I chose Roger the Dog because it has good rhyming words and it is funny how the dog is so lazy.My connection with Roger is my grand farther is lazy too.

  6. Roger the Dog has more meaning to me than If does.

    My connection to Roger the Dog is that I have a dog named Mango that is really lazy and you will always find cleaning her dinner dish.

    I liked the poets craft especially how the poet used rhyming in Roger the Dog, and I do not think that I would have liked the poem as much if it hadn't rhymed.

    I think the winner should be Roger the Dog because I am like Roger in many ways like I am all ways sleepy and wake up to little things.

    I think If~ is not that great because it is just about a person who tells if you... this will happen... .

    I think Roger the Dog was better under stud than If because If~ didn't have a connection with me, and Roger the dog was also very creative

  8. My first poem, Roger the dog is about a very lazy dog and how he lives his lazy life.

    My second poem, If is about what could be the worst that might happen in life.

    My favorite poem is Roger the dog. I liked Roger the dog better because I really liked the creative words the poet put in the poem.

  9. The first poem, Roger the Dog, is about a very lazy dog who just lies around all day, and only wakes up to scratch a flee or to eat.

    The second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind, is about a person that is asking who has seen the wind, and somebody says that you can not see the wind, but when the trees bow down their heads, you know the wind is passing by.

    I choose Roger the dog because I think it is funny, and I like the rhyming and repetition.

  10. Roger the Dog's meaning is more important to me because it's about a dog and I love animals; I also thought is was funny.

    I can make a personal connection with Roger the Dog because I have a dog that loves to sleep on my bed and it is my responsibility to feed her.

    I like Roger the Dog's writer's craft better and it's rhyming and repetition.

  11. The first poem If~ by Rudyard Kipling has more meaning to me than Rodger The Dog by Ted Hughes because it is tells me that no matter what people tell you, don't listen to them listen to yourself. You have a opinion.


    I can make a connection with Rodger The Dog because my dog is REALLY lazy. He does not like to be disturbed when he is sleeping.


    I enjoyed If~'s poet's craft more than Rodger The Dog because I like the rhyme scheme better. It is ABAB.

  13. The first poem, Roger the Dog, is about a lazy dog named Roger who sleeps and eats.

    The second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind, is about a person that can't see the wind, but can feel it.

    I liked Roger the Dog the best because of the humor and the rhyming.

    The second poem, Who Has Seen The Wind? is about a man asking has anyone seen the wind before?
    My favorite poem is Roger The Dog because I like how The poem rhymes, and how it is very humorous.

    I think Who has Seen the Wind is more important to me because you can't see God but you know he's there.

    I can connect with Roger the Dog because sometimes I can be really tired and all I want to do is just sleep.

    I like how Roger the Dog rhymes, and I like all the detail. Also I really like how in Roger the Dog how they text is telling all the way's Roger is sleeping, and all the way's you can't wake him up.

  16. The first poem, Who has seen The Wind, is about a person asking if any one has seen the wind and is giving examples of what the wind does and it reminds me of that you can not see water evaporate but it really does.

    The second poem, Roger The Dog, is about a dog who is really tired and really does not want to move and does not want to do what over dogs do and it connects to me because people can get really tried some times.
    The one I chose is, Roger The Dog, because it has funny rhyming and it connects to people when they are feeling tired and like you just want to go to bed.

    Poem two, Who Has Seen The Wind? It's about a person who is askinging if you have seen the wind and tells when it's passing by.

    My favorite poem was Roger The Dog. I liked it because it was funny and it had a lot of rhyming in it.

    Second poem Who Has Seen The Wind? A person who is asking who has seen the wind the answer to his question will never be answered with a name, but will be answered in a wise way.

    My favorite poem is Roger The Dog because it reminds me of my cat Lucky. My cat is lazy, fat, and well he saves all his energy to eat

    I can connect to roger the dog because I am always tired and usualy just lay on the couch on weekends.


    I liked that Roger the Dog was creative and rhymed a lot.

  20. The first poem, Roger the Dog, is about a dog that is so lazy that he only wakes up to scratch his fleas and eat. This poem has one or two or one contractions.
    The second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind, is about someone that can't see the wind at face to face mode, but he can feel it and see it when the trees blow and the leaves shake. I think this poem is very attracting.
    My favorite poem is Roger the Dog because it is very laughable and warm.

      The second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind, has more meaning to me.

  21. The first poem, Rodger The Dod, is about a dog being very lazy in life. He will only awaken to scratch his fleas and eat. You can tell the poet wants you to understand his writers craft. My connection is my grandparents had a dog and he was very lazy.

    The second poem, Who Has Seen The Wind?, is about a character asking all the people surrounding him if they have seen the wind. I can relate to this because I ask people a lot of questions that they sometimes cannot answer.

    My favorite poem would have to be, Rodger The Dog, because the rhyming is very thoughtful in this poem for certain reasons. I think that this poem is very unique in so many ways. Though Who Has Seen The Wind? was very good, but Rodger The Dog was just my favorite.

  22. The first poem, Roger The Dog, is about a dog who is so lazy that he is mostly asleep 24/7. Roger only gets up to eat, sleep, scratch, and go out. This poem because it rhymes and has line breaks. The line breaks make it easier to read and understand.

    The second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind? , is about somebody who asks you if you've seen the wind. Then they answer the question the asked by saying that nobody has because the wind is invisible. This poem does not have rhymes but has some repetition.

    My favorite poem was Roger the Dog because the lazy dog made me laugh and it had more imagery than Who Has Seen the Wind? .

    The second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind?, is about someone who ask's someone else if they saw the wind.

    I liked Roger the Dog because it is funny and made me laugh and is realistic too.

  24. Roger The Dog is about a dog who is lazy. And it explains a lot about the details. It is simple.

    Who Has Seen The Wind, is about somebody telling you that no one has seen the wind. It does not have rhyme a rhyme scheme.

    I like Roger The Dog more because it was funny and reminded me of my very fat dog, Bailey. She is lazy to. I also like it more because I liked that the poem was simple.

    The second poem, Who has seen the wind, is about someone telling a person who has seen the wind, but they said said that no one can see the wind because it is invisible.
    My favorite poem is Roger the dog because l like dogs and it had it rhymes.

  28. Roger the Dog, is important to me because I feel like the dog sometimes, when you don't feel like you want to do anything at all.

    I have a connection with Roger the Dog because I used to have 2 labs that would not get up for anything.
    I like Roger the Dog's rhyme scheme, and I also like Roger the Dog's similes and metaphors.
