Poetry Madness: Game 5

Read Game 5 poems. Then answer each question. Remember to explain WHY you chose the winner based on poet's craft (rhyme, line breaks, punctuation, simile/metaphor, word choice, repetition)and your personal connection to the meaning.

Your post needs to include the following:
1. What is the meaning of the first poem? (Summarize in one sentence)

2. What is the meaning of the second poem? (Summarize in one sentence)

3. Based on the criteria, which poem did you choose and WHY?

  1. The first poem, Just to Say, is about someone who ate all the plums in the icebox and they were delicious.

    The second poem, Choosing Shoes, is about someone trying to choose new shoes and he thinks that other people will but a certain kind.

    I chose Choosing Shoes because it is a funny poem that connects to me because I can never make a decision on what new shoes I should get. I liked the rhyming and repetition.

  2. The first one, This Is Just to Say, is about someone eating the plums in the icebox, and saying that they were sorry.

    The second one, Choosing Shoes, is about someone who is telling you what kind of shoes they like.

    I like the second one, Choosing Shoes, because it has a rhyme scheme, and it uses great writers craft.

  3. The first poem, This is Just to Say, is about someone eating very good plums that was probably for breakfast.

    The second poem, Choosing Shoes, is About somebody trying to figure out witch shoes he should get.

    I like the first poem, This is Just to Say, because it doesn't rhyme and that is cool because most poems rhyme. It also reminds biting into a juicy plum.

  4. The first poem, This Is Just to say is about a person who eats a plum for a snack, but was suppose to eat the plum for breakfast.

    The second poem, Choosing Shoes is about a person who is trying to decide if they want rubber shoes,pink,blue,tight, polka dot and many more kinds, but she/he does not know what kind he/she wants.

    I think the winner should be Choosing Shoes because I love shoe shopping, and I never know what kind of shoes I want to get. I also like how the rhyme scheme is and how the author used stanzas in their work.

  5. My first poem, Choosing Shoes by, Ffrida Wolfe, is about a girl buying new shoes and does not know witch kind to get because there is so many kinds.

    My second poem, This Is Just To Say by, William Carlos Willams, is about the author and he ate the family's plums for dinner and he was sad that he ate them but he said it was worth it.

    My favorite poem was Choosing shoes. I liked this poem best because I could relate to the author, when I go shoe shopping it takes me a really long time to figure out what color or kind I want.

  6. The first poem This Is Just to Say is about someone who has eaten the plums from the icebox and he is saying sorry for eating them because they were for breakfast.

    The second poem Choosing Shoes is about someone who is picking out new shoes and is asking the reader which shoes she should get.

    I liked This Is Just to Say because it made me laugh and it reminds me of when I do something I am not aloud to and have to say sorry.

    The first poem,This is Just to Say,is about a man who ate all the plums he said they were sweet and he was sorry he just could not hep himself.There is no repetition and no rhyming words.

    The second poem,Choosing Shoes, is about a person who is telling the reader about people who like all kinds of shoes and can figure out witch ones to pick.It had rhyming words but no repetition.


    My favorite one was This is Just to Say because plums are tasty and it makes me want to jump out of my seat.

  8. The first poem, This Is Just to say, is about a boy who just ate your possible breakfast of plums, and how he said they were delicious!


    The second poem, Choosing Shoes, is about a girl who sees wonderful shoes, but her parents get the ugliest kind she sees.







    I liked the poem Choosing Shoes the best because I loved how the rhyme scheme went like AAAB AAAB and the last line matched ALL the other last lines. The other lines all rhymed to. I also liked how it reminded of how my mom and I go shoe shopping together, and I want her to get a kind of shoe and how she sometimes gets it and sometimes not.

  9. The first one,This is Just to Say, is about a person eating the plums when he was not to eat them and is trying to forgive him self.

    The second one, Choosing Shoes, is about a person talking about all different kinds of shoes like bow shoes, buckled shoes,and bright shoes that people will not let her buy only the flat shoes they will let her buy.

    My favorite one is, Choosing Shoes, because it tells all about different kinds of shoes and it has some funny parts in it and my favorite type of shoe would be the dance dance shoes.

  10. The first poem, Choosing Shoes is about a person picking out shoes that he would buy if he could buy them.

    The second poem, This is just to Say is about a person admitting that he had eaten the plums in the ice box.

    I choose choosing shoes because I liked how the poet demonstrates a lot of writers craft like rhyming etc........
    My connection to choosing shoes is that I like to look at new shoes before I buy them.

    The second poem is called Choosing Shoes. It is about Someone who does not know what shoes to buy.

    I like This Is Just to Say because I eat stuff that I am not suppose to all the time.

  12. The first poem, This Is Just to Say, is about a person who ate some plums out of the icebox and is sorry for himself because he was supposed to save them for breakfast.

    The second poem, Choosing Shoes, is about a person choosing which shoes they want to buy.

    I liked This Is Just to Say because it tells a person a good lesson about that if you do something wrong you should think about it and feel sorry for yourself

  13. The first poem,This Is Just To Say, is about a person who is saying that the plums he ate were probably supposed to be for breakfast, but ate them anyway.

    The second poem, Choosing Shoes, is about a person who is talking about what kinds of shoes people sometimes buy, and all of the characteristic of the shoes.

    I chose the poem Choosing Shoes because I liked the way the poet rhymed mostly every word together, the way the poet separated the stanzas, and the way the poet gave the word but a big space.

    The second poem,Choosing shoes, is about a shoe store that has all these different kinds of shoes.

    I liked Choosing Shoes the best because, the rhyming was well done and told you about all these different kinds of shoes.

    The second poem,Choosing shoes, is about a child picking out shoes and describing the shoes. But she does not get the pair of shoes he/she wanted.

    I chose Choosing shoes because it gives a lot of details about shoes like,"Buckle shoes,Bow shoes,Pretty pointy toe shoes." My connection with the character is sometimes I do not get the shoes I want.

    The second poem,Choosing shoes, is about a person who is at a shoe store and she wants to pick all the shoes that are there.
    My favorite poem was choosing shoes because it decribes all the things that were there.

    The other poem,Choosing Shoes, Is about a person who doesn't know what shoes to bye in the store.

    My favorite poem is This Is Just to Say because it describes what the plum tasted like.

    The second poem is called Choosing Shoes. It is about a person who is trying to choose what kind of shoes that they want.

    I choose Choose, Choosing Shoes, because it has funny parts, and I have a connection because I can never choose witch shoes that I want. I also like the rhyming and the repetition.

  19. The first poem, This is Just To Say, is about not a person, a thing. It also doesn't in my opinion have a very good rhyme scheme. It is in opinion, not have a meaning. The writers craft is very different than any other poem I have ever read.

    The second poem, Choosing Shoes is about a man speaking to the reader about what shoes would you buy at the store. It says colored shoes and types of shoes. It has an outstanding rhyme scheme. The writers craft is well written.

    My favorite poem is Choosing Shoes. I love shoes, no matter what. The rhyming is just in every stanza and it is well written, in my opinion. I think the writers craft is taking me the place I wanted to go in that poem.

  20. The first poem, This Is Just To Say by William Carlos Williams, is about William admitting he ate the plums they were going to eat, and he asks them to forgive him. This poem has imagery and it is silly.

    The second poem, Choosing Shoes by Frieda Wolfe, is about a girl pickling out shoes wishing she could get them all, but she can't. This poem has lots of rhymes, similes, and metaphors.

    My favorite poem is Choosing shoes because it rhymes more and has more similes.

  21. The first poem, This Is Just to Say, is about about a person who is confessing that the person has eaten someone else's plums, and the person is asking for forgiveness because he knew that the other person might have set the plum out for breakfast.

    The second poem, Choosing Shoes, is about probably a girl telling all the types of shoes she would like to have, and the girl tells about the certain shoes that she would want to buy.

    My favorite poem was, Choosing shoes because I really liked the way that the girls asked a question to the person who was reading the poem. Also I liked the way every once in a while the re would be a rhyme. Also I like the way she listed the shoes she thought it would be fun to have.

  22. The first poem, This is Just to Say, is about some one who has eaten plums that were not his and says sorry. The poem does not contain rhyme scheme, repetition, or any metaphors.

    The second poem, Choosing Shoes, is about some one who can not choose between the types of shoes. It does not have metaphors or similes.

    I like This is Just to say better than the other poem because it feels very sweet and breezy.

  24. The first poem, This Is Just to Say, is about someone who has eaten someones plums that where in a icebox. The main person is saying how sweet the plums are and how he wanted them so much. I like how this person is sorta being sassy and is not really that sorry for eating that persons plums.

    The seconded poem, Choosing Shoes, is about someone who is buying shoes and sees all the different kinds of shoes, and the person dose not know which pair to buy if she could.I really like how it rhymes.

    My favorite poem is Choosing Shoes because I really like how it flows and how it rhymes. I really think this poem is about a little girl in a shoe store because this poem is like something a little girl would saw .I think this is the one I want to go all the way!!!

  25. The first poem, This is Just to Say is about a person who confesses eating the plums that somebody was saving in the icebox for breakfast. He also says they were very tasty and cold. I love how the author puts the thought into the poem.

    The second poem, Choosing Shoes is about a person talking about all of theses types of shoes, and not knowing witch to choose. I love how this poem rhymes so often.

    My favorite poem is Choosing Shoes because I like hearing all the different types of shoes.

    Poem two, Choosing Shoes. It's about a girl (obviously) who is choosing shoes to buy, but can't find the right pair!

    My favorite poem is This Is Just To Say. I liked it because it was short. I also liked it because it talked about fruit and I like fruit.

    The second poem, Choosing Shoes by Ffrida Wolfe, is about someone who is trying to choose shoes to buy. They are pondering on what type of shoes to wear. At the end of each paragraph there is a rhyming word.


    My favorite was Choosing Shoes because I love picking out shoes. I loved all of the kinds of shoes Ffrida listed.

  30. The first poem This Is Just To Say is about a man who had plums in the fridge, and ate them all and he was telling the person that also lived there he had ate them, and they were Delicious.

    The second poem Choosing Shoes is about a person who owns a shoe store and is looking at shoes to buy so she can put them in her shoe store, but she cant decide what to pick for her great new shoe store.

    In my opinion I like Choosing Shoes I think it's really funny, but i going to say that i know what it feels like to not know what shoes to pick so i have a big connection to this poem.
