- What personal connection can you make?
- Which poet's craft do you enjoy more? Be sure to give examples.
- Poet's craft can include: repetition, imagery, personification, rhyme, alliteration, couplets, onomatopoeia, simile/metaphor, etc
Make sure your answer is detailed and explains the three bullet points.
Here is an example of an advanced/proficient post:
“Mother to Son” has a more important meaning to me because it is talking about a woman who was probably a slave telling her boy that life isn't going to be easy but to not give up.
My connection is with the poem “Casey at the Bat.” I have been on a softball team before and struck out when my team really needed a hit. I can imagine how the fans and the player feel when the game is over, and they do not win.
I like “Mother to Son's” writer’s craft more because it rhymes better and the way it is written sounds like the mother is from the South .For example, she says, "I'se been a-climbin' on" and "turnin' corners." I also enjoyed that the poem is a metaphor comparing life to a flight of stairs that is hard to climb. The poet's mother encourages him to never give up but keep trying even though life is hard. “Mother to Son” should win this game.
I think “Who has Seen the Wind” is more meaningful because it shows that the wind is passing by. It also is a peaceful poem.
ReplyDeleteI make a connection with “Roger the Dog” because I have a dog that sleeps in her bed all day.
I think the winner should be, “Roger the Dog” because I make a connection with the poem. I also like the poems rhyme scheme. For example, the rhyme scheme is (AABBCC).
I think the winner is "Roger The Dog" because my dog can be laze.
ReplyDeleteMy connection is my dog can be laze.
I can picture imagery the dog being laze.
"Who has Seen the Wind?" is more meaningful in my opinion. It tells you about how we have not seen the wind, but when the trees shake, we know it's there.
ReplyDelete"Roger the Dog has a great rhyme scheme. It is AABBCC...etc. Also, the poem has great alliteration. For example, "...lug him like a log."
"Roger the Dog" is more enjoyable. The poem is an entertaining story about a very lazy dog named Roger. "Roger the Dog" is the winner.
"Roger the Dog" meant more to me because I can relate to it the most, and it showed me i'm not the only lazy one in the world.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to "Roger the Dog" because I am lazy, and I only want to get up for food if it is good of course.
"Roger the Dog"is about a dog who who is really lazy, and will only get up to eat food,But he wont get up to run and get exersize.
The clear winner is called "Who Has Seen the Wind."
ReplyDeleteThis poem I can relate to because I youst to wonder if you could see the wind.
A piece of writer's craft in this poem is repetition because the author repeats some words in the paragraph. Another piece of writer's craft is personification because the author gives the wind and trees persoonlike features.
Neither of these poems mean anything to me.
ReplyDeleteMy connection to these poems is that my grandmother has a dog that is lazy like Roger. In his defence he is old.
I think the writers craft was the best in "Roger the Dog". I liked the simile when he says "He bakes his head like it's a loaf of bread". I also liked how every line rimes with the next. I think "Roger the Dog" is the winner.
I like "Roger the Dog" the best because I have a connection with it and because I have a dog and I know what it is like to have one.
ReplyDeleteRoger, in "Roger the Dog" sounded like a really lazy dog and my dog is a lazy dog to.
In "Roger the Dog" their was couplets, and it is all about Roger's life.
The poem "Who Has Seen the Wind" has a better meaning to me. you can not see the wind you can only feel it.
ReplyDeleteThe poem "Roger the Dog" reminds me of my dog Bear. He just sleeps all day and he has nightmares. But he likes going on walks and swimming.
I think "Roger the Dog" is the winner. It has much better poets craft. It uses rhyme scheme AABBCC. It has couplets "Asleep he wheezes at his ease. Only wakes to scratch his fleas." It has imagery. It also has alliteration "digs down deep." It has a metaphor "You can luh him like a log. "Roger the Dog" is the clear winner.
"Roger the Dog" should win because it is touching because I have a dog that just died.
ReplyDeleteI love relating to "Roger the Dog" because the dog reminds me of scout. A loving 18 year old dog that was really lazy and was so cute.
I like "Roger the Dog" because the alliteration is really good. for example "flops flat" and "digs down deep.
This poem is called “Roger the Dog,”
ReplyDeleteThis poem is about a lazy dog who
Only gets up to scratch his fleze’s.
I can relate to the poem because
I used to have a bog that was
Really lazy.
I picked “ Roger the Dog,”
Because of the rhyme scheme AABB
I also picked it because it used cuplet’s.
Over all I think the poem “Roger the Dog,”
Is the best poem.
"Who has seen the Wind" means more to me. Because you can't see the wind, and you can only feel it the wind. You also can't smell it either.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to "Roger the Dog" because my dog is really lazy like alog just as roger is.
I think "Roger the Dog" is the best poem. Because of all the imagery and the personification is shown in this poem. The writer's craft is what made this poem so good.
The first poem I read was "Roger the dog",about a dog who sleeps all day and saves all his energy for eating, This poem has a more important meaning to me, because I used to have a dog and she slept all day, so some dogs are a lot of work. this poem used similes like,"like a miner into sleep". I liked this poem!
ReplyDeleteThe second poem I read was "Who has seen the wind" about how you can tell if it's windy by looking at the trees. this poem used rhyme scheme, this poem's rhyme scheme is ABCB. I can make a connection with this poem because I like to look at the trees and I can see the wind blowing.
I think The winner should be "Roger the dog"because it uses lots of writers craft. like rhyme scheme, its rhyme scheme is AABB,CCDD,EEFF,GGHH. It also uses repetition like digs down deep. I hope this poem wins!
"Who Has Seen the Wind" means a lot to me. It is about the wind and how you can see it. But there is one problem. You can't see the wind, but you can see the trees, leaves, and all the things blowing around. The truth is you can't see the wind but you can see the things it's blowing.
ReplyDeleteI made a connection with "Who Has Seen the Wind," because sometimes I think that i can see the wind so clearly. But I may just be imagining. I can see the things moving but sometimes I feel if the wind is really strong that day I can see it. But it might be the rain, or sleet, or snow but it isn't the wind.
I think "Roger the Dog," definitely has the better writer's craft. The first way it shows writer's craft is rhyme scheme the rhyme scheme in this poem the rhyme scheme is AABBCC. The second way it shows writer's craft is it shows alliteration for example it says flops flat and digs down deep. For these reasons I think that "Roger the Dog" definitely should win.

ReplyDeleteI think “Roger the Dog” should win because I can make a connection. I am lazy too and sometimes I only get up to eat.
ReplyDeleteThey second reason I want “Roger the Dog” to win is because it was about a lazy dog that won't do anything. He won’t play, he won’t run, and he won’t jump. That’s a pretty lazy dog.
And the last reason I chose “Roger the Dog” is it had good writer’s craft. One of them was rhyme scheme, and the rhyme scheme is AABBCC. Another Writer’s craft is alliteration and repetition. For example, when it says, Then he flops flat, and digs down deep.
I really hope “Roger the Dog” wins!!!
I think “Who Has Seen the Wind?” has a better meaning to me. It is about how you can’t see the wind, but you don’t have to see it to know that it’s there.
ReplyDeleteI make a connection with “Roger the Dog” because my dog likes to sleep like Roger does.
I think “Roger the Dog” is the winner because it has a lot of couplets. I also like the alliteration. Like, “digs down deep.” I think the rhyme scheme is AABB. I think Roger the Dog should win!!!!!!
The most meaningful poem to me is “Who Has Seen the Wind” because it is proving something in a very meaningful way. It is serious poem to me which makes it more meaningful than “Roger the Dog”
ReplyDeleteI can make a connection with “Roger the Dog” because my old dog (before she passed) was very lazy, and she ate a lot. She got really happy and energetic when she ate or saw food.
I choose as the winner and for best writers craft “Roger the Dog” because it’s rhyme scheme is well the first stanza is AA. It also has alliteration when it says “ bakes his head” I think this poem will for sure win.
“Roger the Dog” is about a dog who is very lazy dog who sits around the house all day and does nothing. He only wakes up to scratch his fleas. He also saves his strength to eat.
ReplyDelete“The Falling Star” is about a beautiful star that comes down very fast. The author describes how amazing the star is using descriptive words.
In my opinion, “Roger the Dog” should be the winner. I like this poem because the author made it very funny. The author used alliteration. He also used a metaphor. That is why “Roger the Dog” should win.
I think “Who has seen the Wind” has a deeper meaning because it is about how you can’t see the wind and that is a fact. Also, it tells you some signs that it is there. For example “The leaves hang trembling.”
ReplyDeleteI can relate to “Roger the Dog” because I am very lazy when I am playing video games. I won’t get up or stop unless someone kicks me off or I am hungry. Also, sometimes I am just too lazy to do anything but sit around.
I like “Roger the Dog’s” writer's craft better. It uses alliteration when it says “Digs down deep” and “Then flops flat.” Also, it used couplets because the rhyme scheme is AABB. I hope “Roger the Dog” wins!
I think “Roger the Dog ” has the better meaning because it explains what is like for a dog to be lazy and to only do things for his own health
ReplyDeleteMy connection is with my old dog because he can become very lazy and barely move to do anything.
I like the writer’s craft more in “Roger the Dog” it used a couplet and rhyme scheme. Also it uses onomatopoeia when it says “Chomp”. That is why I choose "Roger the Dog."
I think “Who Has Seen the Wind” has a deeper meaning because it is saying that even though sometimes you can’t see things that doesn’t mean that it is not there. “Who Has Seen the Wind” is a meaningful poem to me.
ReplyDeleteMy connection is to “Roger the Dog” because my cats like to sleep a lot. I can imagine how much Roger sleeps.
I choose “Roger the Dog” because it has a lot of couplets such as “Asleep he wheezes at his ease. He only wakes to scratch his fleas.” Also, there are similes and metaphors like “He’s just a sack of snoring dog,” and “He hogs the fire, he bakes his head As if it were a loaf of bread.” The author also adds alliteration. For example, it says “He saves his strength for gobble and chomp.” “Roger the Dog” is a great poem and it should win.
I like “Roger the Dog’s” meaning because I love dogs, and I think they are very cool. I had a dog when I was 2, and I loved him very much, but then he bit me in the face, and we had to give him away. I think Roger is not at all like Derby but he reminds me of him.
ReplyDeleteI have a connection with “Roger the Dog,” because I feel like Roger sometimes when I just want to lay around and do nothing. Also, I just want to eat and sleep all day. I know how Roger feels, but man should he get some exercise in.
I pick… “Roger the Dog” I thought it was really funny. Also, all the lines were couplets! You know what that means! The rhyme scheme was AA BB CC DD ect. Plus, I thought there was imagery because I can picture the dog being really lazy. There is alliteration because they say “Digs down deep,” and “Dinner dish.” I think “Roger the Dog” should win, and I am excited to see it in the Final Four!
“Roger The Dog” had a deeper meaning to me. For example, even though I have the MOST HYPERACTIVE DOG EVER, my dog can be lazy too. I love my dog, and “Roger The Dog” makes me have a better day every time I read this poem because it makes me think of my dog.
ReplyDeleteI made a connection with “Roger The Dog” because my dog sometimes doesn’t eat his food due to a lack of energy. But somehow, his energy magically comes back to him when I have a meal!
I think “Roger The Dog” had better writer’s craft. For example, it used alliteration, saying,”digs down deep.” It also uses couplets when it says,”He hogs the fire, he bakes his head, as if it were a loaf of bread.” Finally, it has good rhythm and rhyme scheme because of its couplets and alliteration. The rhyme scheme is AABBCC,etc., and I really like poems like that. “Roger The Dog” is a funny, entertaining poem and it should win!
“Who Has Seen the Wind” has a more important meaning to me because it tells us that we can not see the wind, but if we open our eyes when we are outside, we will see many of nature's gifts. Another reason why it has a better meaning is because “Roger the Dog” was not meant to have an important meaning but it was meant to entertain readers. This poem had a really good meaning.
ReplyDeleteI don’t have a good connection with any of the poems, but I’ll choose “Roger the Dog” because when I was in 1st grade I had a dog. He was not lazy at all but he was awesome. We had to give him to our cousins because we could not take care of him. I liked both of the poems, but I do not have a good connection with any of them.
I liked “Who Has Seen the Wind’s” rhyme scheme more because it used rhyme scheme. For example, the first stanza’s rhyme scheme is ABCB. Another reason why is because it used personification. For example, trees don’t have heads that they can bow down. My third reason why is because it used repetition. For example, the first and second stanza have the exact same meaning, but the author worded them differently so it would not be the exact same. My final reason is because it used imagery. For example, I can imagine the leaves falling off on a windy day. I think this poem is the clear winner.
The fist poem, “Roger the Dog,” is a very funny poem. It is also a very good poem. I love that the author wrote a good, funny, and entertaining poem about a very lazy dog. I think that the author wanted to write a funny poem that entertained his readers. I also think that the author loves dogs a lot. He probably is writing about his dog. I think that the author’s dog was like Roger. I like that the author wrote about an extra lazy dog that won’t even run around! I still think that “Roger the Dog” is more meaningful to me.
ReplyDeleteMy connection is to “Roger the Dog.” It is that my dog, Elvis will sometimes never run around. Then a random person will ring the doorbell. My dog will go crazy! He barks like crazy, he runs around like a crazy man, finally he jumps all over the visitor. Another connection I have is to , “Who Has Seen the Wind,” is that I will be playing sports, and the wind will blow causing me to mess up big time. It is funny, but it is really annoying when the wind blows. That is what my connections to these amazing poems are.
I choose, “Roger the Dog” as this hard-fought matchups winner. I like how the author uses couplets throughout the poem. I also like how the author uses alliteration when he says, “sack of snoring dog.” The author has a lot of writer’s craft all over the poem. I realized that when I looked closely there was a lot more writer’s craft. I like how the author uses imagery. I can picture the whole scene in my mind. I wish that the author had used onomatopoeia and some similes and metaphors. That is why I choose, “Roger the Dog,” as the winner in this game.

ReplyDeleteI can make a connection with “Roger the Dog” because sometimes you just want to save your energy for food! I sometimes just want to lay in bed and eat ice cream!(not sometimes, all the time!) This was a great poem.
I choose “Roger the Dog” because it uses rhyme scheme, couplets, and similes. The rhyme scheme for the first three stanzas are AA AA AA. It uses similes like “He hogs the fire, he bakes his head As if he were a loaf of bread.” and “You can lug him like a log.” Every stanza is a couplet. Like “ease” and “flease.” Then, “head” and “bread.” “Excercise” and “eyes.” That is just a few. This is a great poem and I think it should win!
I think “Who Seen the Wind” is more meaningful because it’s telling you no one has seen the wind, but you can tell when it’s passing through It is also telling you it will always be there.
ReplyDeleteMy connection is with “Roger the Dog” because I have a two dog that are old.
The winner should be “ Roger the Dog” because it reminds me of my dog.My dogs almost do the same thing. It also has some couplets.
I think “Who has seen the Wind” has a better meaning to me. Because it has a better meaning because it’s talking about people who has seen the wind. And I think the title says it all for this poem.
ReplyDeleteI have a connection with “Roger the Dog” I used to have a dog and he would lay around, and only get up to eat. Just like my old dog Brooks!
In conclusion I think that “Roger the Dog” should win! Because I think it just speaks more to me. Also the writer's craft is rhyme scheme of AABBCCDD. In my opinion “Roger the Dog” should win 100%!
