It takes attention to detail and hard work to be a champion, so your blog post needs to reflect your best writing and thinking. May the best poem win!
These are probably my two favorite poems of all. I hope it is a close match up not a 30 to 1 kind of match up. I think these poems deserve to win and I don’t want to see either one of them loose. But I know one has to win and I pick “Mother to Son.” I choose this poem because of all of its writer’s craft and its detail. It shows a great lesson that is one that I will always remember. I also like how the mom is speaking in a country accent like Life ain't been no crystal stair. For all of these reasons I choose “Mother to Son” to win the championship.

ReplyDeleteI like both of these poems but I think that “Mother to Son” should win. I chose “Mother to Son” because it is about a mother telling her son about when life gets hard don’t give up. I can make a connection to “Mother to Son.” One time when I was playing my championship basketball game, I was so tired. I had been playing in double overtime. But I didn’t give up, I kept playing and at the end we won by one point! I think “Mother to Son” should win because it has better meaning and better life skills. I hope “Mother to Son” WINS!!!
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, “Roger the Dog” should win. This poem is about a lazy dog who does nothing all day. He only gets up to uses the bathroom and eat. This poem uses writer’s craft. The writer uses rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme is AABBCC. I also have a connection to “Roger the Dog.” Sometimes I feel like Roger. I am lazy when I wake up. I have a dog also. I also think this poem is very funny. That is why “Roger the Dog” should win!
ReplyDeleteThese two poems are my favorite poems of all, but I think “Roger the Dog” should win because of the alliteration, rhyme scheme, similes, and couplets. It has couplets in every stanza. For the first stanza it says “ease” and “fleas.” For the first two stanzas the rhyme scheme is AABB. The simile it has is when it says “You can lug him like a log.” That is also alliteration. I can connect with this poem because sometimes I am just lazy. He also reminds me of my dog because she is always laying around all day. I love this poem, and this poem should definitely win!

ReplyDeleteI think “Roger the Dog” should win because it has better writer’s craft. It has lots of alliteration. For example, “Then flops flat, and digs down deep.” It has a lot of couplets like “Asleep he wheezes at his ease. He only wakes to scratch his fleas.” There is also rhyme scheme. The first four lines is AABB. The author also included similes and metaphors. A simile is “he bakes his head As if it were a loaf of bread.” A metaphor is “He’s just sack of snoring dog.” “Roger the Dog” is a great poem and I think it should win!
ReplyDeleteI think that “Mother to Son” should win the championship for poetry madness. To me it has a better meaning than “Roger the Dog.”
ReplyDeleteI also have a connection to “Mother to Son.” My mother always tells me that life isn’t going to go the way I want it to. And it is not easy to get the things you want. For example, if I want to go on the trampoline for fun and play with my brothers. Then I have to get all my stuff done before I go there.
I like the poet’s craft in “Mother to Son because it has my favorite poet’s craft metaphor. The whole poem is about a metaphor. “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.” Also it uses repetition of that metaphor. I hope “Mother to Son” wins the championship game!
In my opinion, “Roger the Dog” should win this game. I like the couplets on every two lines, the comparisons with the poet comparing Roger to a loaf of bread, the onomatopoeias when it says, “He saves his strength for gobble and chomp,” the similes when the poet says, “Then flops flat, digs down deep, like a miner, into sleep” and “You can lug him like a log,” and the alliteration when it says “flops flat” and “digs down deep.” I connected with this poem because my dog, Gus, is the exact opposite of Roger when the sun is up, but he is a ground-attracted blob on the floor when the it is nighttime. Even though “Mother To Son” is a great poem with a valuable lesson, “Roger the Dog” should win!
ReplyDeleteI think “Roger the Dog” should win the championship because it
ReplyDeleteuses more writers craft. For example, it uses couplets, rhyme scheme, and repetition. It is a funny poem and makes me laugh. This is why I like the Poem.“Mother to Son” feels more meaningful to me because it reminds me that life will have ups and downs and some
times will not go how you plan it. I also like it because it uses repetition and metaphors. That is why I like “Mother to Son.”
I choose “Roger the Dog” as the oficiul winner of poetry madness. I choose this poem because “Mother to Son” might have a better meaning. In my opinion “Roger the Dog” is a better poem, and I think it should win.
ReplyDeleteI can also make a better connection with “Roger the Dog” because my dog was super old. She kept an ear out for the call “Food!” When she heard that word she rushed to her bowl. She ate all the time, but when there was no food she would lay down and sleep.
One of the most important reasons I chose this poem was because of the writer's craft. I like the alliteration when it says “flops flat and digs down deep.” The first six lines of rhyme scheme of this poem is A,A,B,B,C,C, etc. This poem also has a simile. This simile is “like a minor into sleep.” I like how the author was very descriptive while explaining Roger. I think this poem should win poetry madness.
“Roger the Dog” should win. This poem is very good! A connection I made to the poem is that my grandparents have dog that is very lazy just like in “Roger the Dog” when the dog is lazy. I really enjoy the writer's craft in this poem. The rhyme scheme is AABB.It used alliteration when it said,”Then flops flat, and digs down deep,” It used repetition when it said,”He” a lot. There are six couplets in the poem, For example, it says,” He will not race, he will not romp,He saves his strength for gobble and chomp.” It uses onomatopoeia when it says,”He saves his strength for gobble and chomp.” The final piece of writers craft is similes. It said,”He’ll work as hard as you could wish Emptying he dinner dish,” In my opinion this poem is very good, and it should win!
ReplyDeleteI think both of these poems will win close. Not like a 1000 to 1. More like a 52 to 50 is this case. I like “Roger the Dog.” This poem is funny enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteI think “Roger the Dog” should win the championship game because makes me laugh, and I think that it is a creative poem. I have a connection with the poem when I don’t want to do anything but sleep and play video games. One thing I like about the poet's craft is it has rhyme scheme and couplets. That is why “Roger the Dog” should take the win for the championship.

ReplyDeleteI think both poems should win! But honestly, I like “Mother to Son” better! In my opinion it has a better writers craft. The writer’s craft is metaphor and much more. How the poem is using metaphor is the mom is comparing her life to broken up boards and splinters in her life. I also feel like “Mother to Son” has a deeper meaning to me. The mother is telling her son life is not going to be easy, but if you keep trying you will make it to the next level. I hope “Mother to Son” is the winer!
ReplyDeleteI think “Roger the Dog” should win because of my connection and it’s writer’s craft. My connection is my dogs are just like Roger because they are old. There is a lot of writer’s craft. For example there are 6 couplets. It also has a some similes like “Like a miner into sleep.” I hope it wins for the fourth time!
ReplyDeleteThese are my two favorite poems but I know I have to choose one and that's what makes it really hard so I went with “Mother to Son.” I choose this poem because I think it’s very sweet and heartfelt. I like this poem because it’s about a mother telling her son that “Life ain't been no crystal stair.” When she says this it makes me think that the mother was/is a slave and that life's not perfect so never give up. I can connect with this poem because I’m not an underachiever and nor is the mother. The writer's craft I saw was metaphors. One of the metaphors was also “Life ain’t been no crystal stair.” I really like this poem and I think it should win.

ReplyDeleteI think “Mother to Son” should win, because I think it is a really good poem, but I really love “Roger the Dog.” I hope this is a close match, but I think “Mother to Son” should win. “Mother to Son” is a really meaningful poem to me.
ReplyDeleteI have a connection to “Mother to Son,” because my mother tells me, “If you want something, you have to work hard for it, ‘cause it will not come to you.” I think this poems meaning is really strong, and it really deserves to win. “Roger the Dog” is not very meaningful at all. One thing I like is that they use a metaphor when they say, “Life has not been a crystal stair.” I hope “Mother to Son” wins.
i did not have time to finish
DeleteI choose “Roger the Dog” as the winner because it entertained me about a story about a lazy dog. Another reason why is because it focuses on every little thing he does a day. For example, it even tells us that when the owner takes Roger outside he rolls around in cow poop. Another reason why is because it used rhyme scheme. For example, the first two stanza’s rhyme scheme is AABB. I also liked how it used couplets. For example, one couplet was “Asleep he wheezes at his eaze. He only wakes to scratch his fleas.” another reason why is because it used repetition. For example, it repeated the word dog a lot. One writer's craft I liked was the similes in the poem. For example, one simile was “Then flops flat, and digs down deep, Like a miner into sleep.” another reason why is because it used imagery. For example, it explained how he goes to sleep so well that I can imagine it in my head. I do not have a connection with “Roger the dog.” this poem is interesting, entertaining, has lots of writers craft, and is fun to read. This poem is the best poem out of all the poems I have read.
ReplyDelete“Mother to Son” should win it all. I like how the author has a big meaning in the poem. The author is trying to tell us that life is hard. He also says to never give up. I like how the mom is telling her child how to live. I think the author wants everyone to get good and equal opportunities. The author doesn’t want to have people give up. If you don’t give up you will get good opportunities. My dad always tells me that if you show up good things will happen. The author wants to make the world a better place. Some people throw away their lives if they don’t get immediate success. “Roger the Dog” doesn’t have as much meaning.
ReplyDeleteI have a connection to the poem, “Mother to Son.” My connection is to the poem, “Mother to Son.” My dad has always said that half of whatever you are doing is showing up. For example, if there is a person who is supposed to get promoted to boss, and they aren’t there you might get promoted to boss because you showed up. My sister once got to do a promotion at a baseball game because we came to the game. I think my dad’s saying is an important saying. It is also one of my personal precepts. That is my connection.
The poem,“Mother to Son,” is the better poem. I love how the author uses a metaphor by comparing life to a crystal stair. The author also uses repetition by repeating “crystal stair.” That is why, “Mother to Son,” should win!
I did not have time to finish. I would have made the last paragraph longer.
DeleteI think, “Roger the dog” should win the championship because I make a connection with the poem. I have a dog that just sleeps and sleeps. I also think it should win because writers craft. Some of the writer’s craft is rhyme scheme (AABBCC. Another writer’s craft is alliteration. The alliteration is dinner dish. I like this poem better than, “Mother to Son. I really hope it wins.
ReplyDeleteI think the winner is “Roger the Dog” because it is a good story and I have a dog. The rhyme scheme is AABBCC. The Author used imagery. I can picture the dog being lazy.
ReplyDeleteI think that “Mother to Son” means more to me because it tells you about life and how you should want to live it. But on the other hand there is “Roger the Dog” it is not so serious but it is really funny it also has rhyme scheme. For example, AA BB CC. I think that roger the dog should win. It is funny I can relate to it and many other things, but it should be the ultimate winner. I could picture myself being roger.
ReplyDeleteI pick “Roger the Dog” over "Mother to Son" because I thought it was really funny. The author used couplets in every lines. Which caused the rhyme scheme to be AA BB CC DD GG and so on. Also, “Roger the Dog” used imagery, and it painted a picture in my mind of a dog being really lazy. Another type of writer’s craft “Roger the Dog” used was alliteration. “Digs down deep” is one example. A connection made to “Roger the Dog” is about one of my Mom’s friend’s dog. They have a very lazy dog just like Roger. He probably sleeps 23 hours of the day. I hope“Roger the Dog” wins the championship and is crowned with title of the champion of poetry madness!!
ReplyDeleteI choose “Mother to Son” to be the winner of Poetry Madness. I like the meaning of the poem. The mother, who is talking to her son, compares life to a crystal stair. She says that life isn’t a crystal stair all the time. Sometimes, there are rough parts in life so don’t fall down. I also have a connection with “Mother to Son.” I have had many, and I mean many, rough parts in my life. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take over your fears. I voted for “Mother to Son” in the Sweet Sixteen, but I did not vote for the poem the next two rounds. But now I think that sense we are in this situation, I want “Mother to Son” to win Poetry madness.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteI think “Mother to Son” should win because of the three things #1 meaning the meaning in “Mother to Son” is that a mother is telling her son about her life and how it was not crystal clear. #2 I like the writer's craft the best in mother to son. One example is how the mom compares stairs to her life. Also Hughes’ first lines all start differently than his next next 3, they start with and. He does that twice. Finally #3 I can make a connection with “Mother to Son”. My life is not always crystal clear. I think “Mother to Son” should be crowned champion.
I think “ Roger the Dog,”
ReplyDeleteShould win over “Mother to Son,”
Because I can make a connections
For example, I used to have
A dog named Clyde that was really
Fat and really lazy. I also really enjoyed
The rhyme scheme (AABBCC). Over all
I think that “Roger the Dog,” should win.
I love both of the two poems they are my two favorite poems of all time, but I think “Roger the Dog” should win because of all the alliteration, rhyme scheme, similes, and couplets. It has couplets in every stanza. For the first stanza it says “ease and fleas.” For the first two stanzas the rhyme scheme is AABB. The simile it says “You can lug him like a log.” That is also alliteration. I can connect with this poem because sometimes my dog is really lazy and, I love to be lazy with her. I love this poem, and I think that this poem should definitely win!
ReplyDeleteI choose "Roger the Dog" to win because I have a connection and three good reason why this poem should win. My connection is with my dog because she is as lazy ,or maybe even more lazy than Roger is. She always is like log and will not budge to move not even for a treat. Here's my first reason the writer's craft. It made this poem a million times better than it would be without the imagery and the description. The second reason is the rhymes that he used to make this poem a lot than it would be without them. The third reason are the actions that were described by rhymes and personification. These two poems are really good but I have chosen "Roger the Dog" for my winner of poetry madness.
ReplyDeleteI think that both poems should win, and I wish I could choose both. It was a very close tie but I pick “Roger the Dog.” One reason I pick this poem over “Mother to Son” is because of the poet’s craft. For example, the poet used couplets on every single line. “Asleep he wheezes in his ease. He only wakes to scratch his fleas.” and “He hogs the fire, he bakes his head as if it were a loaf of bread.” Aslo it uses alliteration. “He’ll work as hard as you could wish emptying his dinner dish.” and “Then flops flat and digs down deep and like a miner, into sleep.” Another poet’s craft is rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme was AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH throughout the whole poem. Another reason I pick this poem is because of the strong connection I can make. My dog loved to eat and sleep to. And the last reason is the meaning. I think that this is a funny poem about a dog who loves to sleep! I hope this poem wins!
ReplyDeleteI like both poem’s, but “Mother to son” is the one that should win. I think that because it means more to me when it it talks about how even if life is hard to never give up. The second reason I think that is because it uses metaphors like,”Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair”. I hope that this poem wins!
ReplyDeleteI think the winner is “Mother to Son.” It has the strongest meaning to me out of every poem I have read in my entire life. I can imagine a one on one speech the mother is telling her son. I think it really digs down deep in the son’s feelings. I think “Mother to Son” deserves to win the championship.
ReplyDeleteFor me the clear winner is “Mother to Son”by Langston Hughes. To me “Mother to Son” is what a well written thought out poem looks like.
ReplyDeleteI can make a connection to “Mother to Son” because sometimes (especially on Sunday nights) I feel run down and sad. I think the poem “Mother to Son” is a very encouraging poem.
I like how “Mother to Son” has some metaphors in it. An example of a metaphor is “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair” because the mother compares life to a stair. I also think that the author use repitition because he repetes the line “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stai” twice.
I can connect to “Mother to Son” because my mom is a therapist, so she is always saying to never give and to persevere through hard times. That’s my mom in full strodle.
ReplyDeleteI choose “Mother to Son” because love that this mom is saying to never give up. She said, “Life ain’t been no crystal stair” is something that’s very touching to me.
I like the imagery in “Mother to Son”. I can picture the mom in bed to the son that is sick and saying to persevere or right after the slaves got free. The one metaphor that really stands out is “Life ain’t been no crystal stair” that was the best metaphor.
I have a better connection with the poem called “Roger the Dog.”The first connection I have with this poem is that Roger is really lazy and maybe a little grouchy. The connection is that my dogs sometimes just lay down and sleep whenever they want. My dogs just stay put and don’t move when they are asleep. My two dogs can be a little grouchy when they want attention. When they want attention they claw you with their long nails and they bark a lot. The poem,”Mother to Son,” has a better meaning to me because it can really tell how this person’s life is tough, but they are still fighting. For example, in this poem it says,”And life for me ain’t been no crystal clear.” That small and little saying means to me that life has had rough spots. It also means to me that her life had rough spots that she tried to fight through. This poem also means more to me because the poem says,”I’se been a climbin’-on,” which kind of means almost the same thing as the other saying. This also means through those rough spots she still tried even if she didn’t have success. This poem also has a deeper meaning to me because this person might’ve not been very wealthy, but she didn’t doubt, feel bad for herself, or believe she would fail in anything. She persevered through a lot of things. I think the poem,”Roger the Dog,” has better poet’s craft. For example, this poem has rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme for this poem is AA BB. The second reason I think this poem has better poet’s craft is because it has repetition. This poem keeps on repeating the word “he.”The third reason I think this poem has better poet’s craft is because it has alliteration. This poem has alliteration because it says in one line,” Then flops flat, and digs down deep.” The words, flops flat and digs down deep are alliteration. My fourth reason I think this poem has better poet’s craft is because it has a simile. The simile is when the poem says,”Then flops flat, and digs down deep, like a miner into sleep.” The part when the poem says,”like a miner into sleep,” is the simile. Lastly, this poem has imagery because I can imagine a really lazy dog that only puts effort into things when he is eating food. I think the poem,”Mother to Son,” should win the championship because it means a lot to me.
ReplyDelete“Mother To Son” has a better meaning because it talks about how life may feel. It’s also about some things in life are going to be unexpected. “Roger The Dog” is more of a funny story. “Mother To Son” is a meaningful story.
ReplyDelete“Roger The Dog” has a connection with me because I had a lazy dog before. I like “Roger The Dog” better because it really reminds you of funny things in the past. It uses rhyme scheme.
