Mother To Son is a more meaningful poem than life doesn't frighten me because it is a serious talk between a mother and a son.

DeleteThe first poem I read was "Life Doesn't Frighten me," and it was about a boy who isn't afraid of anything, because he has faith in God. He knows that God is always with him so he isn't afraid.
DeleteThe second poem I read was "Mother to Son,"and it was about a mom telling her son that life isn't going to be perfect like a crystal staircase. She says no matter what hard things happen keep trying and going forward because that is what she has done and how she taught him.
The poem I think should win is Life Doesn't Frighten me because i feel a connection. If i get scared i always know that God is with me.

For the winner, I chose Mother To Son. I chose this because I think it has more power and strong emotion included in the poem. I also like how the author compared a set of crystal stairs to her feelings. I had a connection because my brother has had a talk with my mother similar to the one in the poem

Life Doesn't Frighten Me has a better meaning to me because it might give some of us lots of encouragement. It gives me encouragement. I can make a connection with Life Doesn't Frighten Me. My connection is that sometimes I tell others that some things frighten me ... but other things do not. The Eagle has more poet's craft. Some of its poet's craft is precipitation, and rhyming. I think that Life Doesn't Frighten Me should be the winner.

Mother to Son, the second poem I read, had a deeper meaning for me. I think this because we have been studying the civil war and slavery in school. I think that after visiting the carter, carton, and belle mead plantation I have a better understanding of the life of slavery and realize what the author means by "life ain't been no crystal stair"
ReplyDeleteI made a connection with Life Doesn't Frighten Me. The connection was that when I was little I was afraid of the dark and the shadows on the walls. Now I realize that there are no monsters under my bed and I feel that nothing in the world will frighten me.
I think that Life Doesn't Frighten Me deserves to win because of its message that it is sending.

ReplyDeleteI can make a T~M connection because there is an old 1950's cartoon called, "Bold King Cole" with Felix The Cat, and King Cole is apparently afraid of nothing in the world.

The first poem, Mother to Son, is about a mother to is giving her son life advice. I think this because she talks about how even though through a hard time you shouldn't give up, no matter what.
DeleteI think Life Doesn't Frighten Me is about a little girl who has a ton of confidence, I made the assumption that she has a "magic charm" that supposedly gives her confidence. I think she thinks the charm is "magic" because I think someone special gave her the charm so she assumes its "magic."
I think Mother To Son should win because it gives you a valuable life lesson on that even though you are going through hard time you should never, ever, give up. I think that is very important, so Mother to Son should win.
