Now that you have read through all of the poems and chosen a winner to advance to the Elite 8, the pressure has mounted. Read "Roger the Dog" and "If~" and choose a winner.

In Round 2, you need to answer the following questions in complete sentences:
  • Which poem's meaning is more important to you?
  • What personal connection can you make?
  • Which poet's craft do you enjoy more? Poet's craft can include repetition, personification, alliteration, imagery, rhyme, simile/metaphor, etc.
Make sure your answer is detailed and answers the three questions.

  1. I think the poem Roger the Dog's meaning is more important to me because I like how it is a funny poem about a lazy dog and that poem just seems to always make me smile. I can make a connection with Roger and my dog Georgie. At night time my dog will always lay on the floor in the office and do nothing but just lay their. In like how the author describes Roger as a lazy dog who will not get off his butt. That is why I chose Roger the Dog as the winner.

  2. I chose Rodger The Dog. I chose it because it had real meaning, plus I had a connection! My dog, Cute and fuzzy little Hollybell, is so lazy, she only gets up to eat her food! And she's really clumsy too! I also just enjoyed the poem altogether. It makes real sense for a dog lover!

Although the poem Roger the Dog was funny, it had no meaning. The message it was sending was that there is a lazy dog that is always sleeping. I can relate in no way because I dont have a dog nor a lazy pet.
