Poetry Madness: Elite 8, Game 4!

Now that you have read through all of the poems and chosen a winner to advance to the Elite 8, the pressure has mounted. Read the winners of Game 6 and Game 8.

Choose your winner based on the following criteria:
  • Which poem's meaning is more important to you?
  • What personal connection can you make?
  • Which poet's craft do you enjoy more? Be sure to give examples.
    • Poet's craft can include: repetition, imagery, personification, rhyme, alliteration, couplets, onomatopoeia, simile/metaphor, etc

Make sure your answer is detailed and explains the three bullet points.

Here is an example of proficient writing:

I chose Choosing Shoes because it is a fun poem. For example,I liked how they were choosing from all different kinds shoes.

I also liked this poem because I can make a connection. It is hard for me to chose what shoes I like best.

Finally I really liked this poem because it has poet's craft. For example, it had four quatrains and the rhyme scheme for each is AAAB. In each quatrain, the author talks about a different kinds of shoes. This is why I liked Choosing Shoes as the winner.

I choose the winning poem as Do You Carrot All For Me because it is a funny poem because it uses a lot of play on words like "with your turnip nose." and it looks like the person was typing it with vegetable spell check.
I can make a connection with the poem because I like to use play on words all the time.
There is some poet's craft because it has rhyme scheme and it is ABCDECFG. There is also metaphor because when it is describing the person, they don't say like or as.
This is why it think Do You Carrot All For Me is the winning poem.

  4. I chose DO YOU CARROT ALL FOR ME as the winner because it had a deeper meaning and they used the fruits and vegetables as really good actual words.

One connection I can make with the poem is that I love fruits and vegetables.

There was lots of writer's craft in DO YOU CARROT ALL FOR ME. Some writer's craft was metaphors, for example," You are a peach" is a metaphor. Some more writer's craft I noticed was word play. For example he changed the words care at to carrot, he changed the word reddish to radish, he changed the word pair to pear and many more. One more writer's craft I noticed was an onomatopoeia. For example when he said, " My heart beets for you" even though beets is used in the vegetable form it is still saying that it beats for you.

That is why I chose DO YOU CARROT ALL FOR ME.
