Hearts of Service Day

Dear students,

I had a wonderful time volunteering with you and your families at Feed the Children. I learned a lot about myself as well as the importance of giving back to the community. Volunteering takes more than showing up for a few hours. It takes preparation, planning, action, and, now, reflecting. I want you to reflect about your time spent at Feed the Children. Please answer the following questions:

  • What was your role(s) at Feed the Children? How did you contribute?
  • What was your favorite part(s) of our service project and WHY?
  • Name some connections you made during your time at Feed the chidlren.
  • What is something new you learned from this experience? Be specific! Also, were you surprised by anything you saw or heard?

Please make sure you answered each bullet point before you publish your comment. Double check your comment for punctuation/spelling mistakes. Your comment must be at least 5 sentences.

Be sure to include:
  • a topic sentence
  • supporting details
  • complete sentences
  • correct spelling, capitalization (M.I.N.T.S.), and end punctuation.
  • a closing sentence

I cannot wait to hear about your day.

You teacher,
Ms. B

  1. I enjoyed the field trip to Feed The Children, and it helped me realise that not all kids are as fortunate as us, and it made me feel good to know that I was helping many poor families. In my group we made stacks of eighteen face masks to help people get clean, when they can't take baths or showers like us. I felt so proud of myself when the job was done, and I was happy that I helped a lot of people.

I had a great time at Feed The Children. One of my favorite parts of the day was getting to tape the boxes shut with the tape gun. I packed boxes and I taped the boxes shut. A lot of my friends all agreed that we had a fun time. I learned that you can have so much fun while you are working.

  4. At Feed the Children I participated in taping boxes. My favorite part was being with all my friends, and it felt good to be doing things for other people. For Feed the Children I did not have a connection, so working at Feed the Children is something new for me. At Feed the Children I learned that working for other people is actually fun. that's what i learned and did at Feed the children.

  5. I volunteered at Feed the Children today. I taped boxes so people could put food in them. I taped and helped people hold the flaps down while they taped too. I liked taping boxes, helping people, and hanging out with my friends while doing it because I knew that I was saving kids from starving to death and I was helping kids all over the world. One connection I made with Feed the Children is that I have served/ made meals for homeless people before. One more connection I made at Feed the Children is that it makes me so sad that kids all over the world are sitting on the road starving so whenever I start helping I get this big flow of joy that goes through my body and it makes me feel so happy that I am serving kids who barely have anything to eat. I learned that the Feed the Children project serves kids all over the world, not just here in America. I also learned that by doing this we can serve over about 1500 kids! I had so much fun and i hope to be able to serve again!

  7. Today I volunteered at Feed The Children. I had a great time putting spinach into boxes and tying face masks to help children in need. During today I liked the thought of every box I pack helps a family in need. During Feed The children I thought, I have helped people in need more than just one time. At Feed The Children I learned children sometimes don't have much food to eat or supplies to use, so every box that I pack or every minute I spend volunteering at Feed the Children can make a huge difference in someone else's life. That was how my experience at Feed The Children was.

  8. For hearts of service day, I worked at feed the children. We boxed 300 boxes! The boxes were delivered to poor women all over the world. The process of the boxing was the box guy put the boxes on the conveyer belt, and when the box got to us we put the item in the box. Then the tape people taped the boxes, and stacked them up. My favorite part was putting the items in the boxes. I had so much fun at feed the children.

  10. I loved contributing to to Feed The Children today. MY role was putting the packing tape on the boxes once they were filled up (I now officially love tape guns!). I liked taping the packages because it is super fun to use tapes guns! One connection I made was to when I was delivering Thanksgiving baskets to someone who wasn't as healthy as me and my family are. I learned that everyday children who don't have as many blessings as we do are helped by Feed the Children.

    1. I think that the tape guns were pretty hard when it came to ripping the tape off.

    1. I worked on beauty products such as perfume, eyeliner, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. I worked at the Avon station.
    2. My favorite thing was to think that we are helping many families in need, and having fun at the same time.
    3. I made a connection with my friends, who were also having fun.
4.I learned that we should be grateful for what we have, and there are many children that have only one meal a day, or maybe not even that.
I had a fantastic time at feed the children.

  12. At Feed the Children, I packed face cream and women's toiletries. For the face cream, my job was to take two bottles out of the box and put them in the box with all the other things in it. For the toiletries, my job was to take one package out of the huge box, and put the toiletries in the box that was being delivered to people that are not as fortunate as us. My favorite part was basicly everything at Feed the Children. I am on the Service Learning Board, so I connect with that experience a lot. I learned that since people don't have as much as you and me, we should never take all that we have for granted. I was surprised that together, as a community, we packed so many boxes! That was my experience at Feed the Children!

  13. I had an awesome time at Feed the Children! My role (job) at Feed the Children was to put boxes on the conveyor belt so everyone could fill them with supplies. It was harder than you would think because we ran out of boxes a ton of times and had to run and go get more. My favorite part of the Feed the Children was the huge room filled with boxes and cool stuff, that's where I did my role! A connection I made there was when I saw Feed the Children , it reminded me of a place I went to called The Harvest Food Drive, because they both collected food for the poor. I learned how much children in the world that are not as lucky as us, so it felt good to help them out.

  14. I had an awesome day at Feed the children. I was stacking and taping boxes. one of my favorite part was getting to yell "100 boxes!" and helping others because I just love helping people who are in need. I Learned that no matter what the person or animal is like you should always help them. I was surprised that we had to do over 100 boxes. That was my day at Feed The Children.

  15. At Feed the Children I was a box bro. In the warehouse we put Avon products into the boxes that me and Charlie put on the conveyor. My favorite part was carrying box stacks to the conveyor. I learned that the people who work here are volunteers that don't get paid just to help people.

  16. Today at Feed the Children we helped serve the people who are less fortunate. When I walked into the place my heart was beating so fast, I was thinking what if I can't meet their expectations. I helped with Avon. Avon is a sort of makeup and beauty supply. They had things such as shampoo, conditioner, eye liner, body spray, and so much more. We put a bunch of items in the small box but we made it work. Then towards the end I helped with taping and placing. It was not easy placing 100 boxes on a rolling cart so they all could fit on a level you can reach. But it was still fun all working together to make the boxes stay. My favorite part of the group work was emptying my boxes of supplies because I knew that when I finished the box that I had done something for someone that was not me, even if I did not know the person that I was doing this for. I wanted so many of the things that I had packed up but then I realised that the less fortunate does not have any of the amazing things that I have. Here's a thought, they probably don't even have roof over their head! I was very surprised when I heard that I had just volunteered with people that help all over the world! I just did this for a day but these people do it for a living! I learned that I need to work more on helping people when just assisting myself. That is what I learned at Feed The Children
