Image result for eating plumsImage result for various shoes

Read Game 5 poems. Answer each question below. Remember to explain WHY you chose the winner based on poet's craft (rhyme, line breaks, punctuation, simile/metaphor, word choice, repetition) AND your personal connection to the meaning. Don't forget to write with M.I.N.T.S.!

Your post needs to include the following:
1. What is the meaning of the first poem? (Summarize in one sentence)

2. What is the meaning of the second poem? (Summarize in one sentence)

3. Based on the criteria, which poem did you choose and WHY?

***Please tell me everything you think, but use your best writing.

Here is an example of proficient writing:
“Who Has seen The Wind” is about how you can not see wind, but nature shows you when there is wind by the trees moving and the leaves falling. I think everybody can tell when there is wind if they pay attention to nature. I noticed that it was first person.

The second poem I read was “If.” It is about a dad telling his kid that if he follows these rules he will be a great man. I feel like this is also a lesson to tell readers to be the best man they can by doing the right thing. I noticed that it was first person.

I pick “Who Has Seen The Wind” as the winner because it used personification. For example, one sentence was, “But when trees bow down their heads”. Another reason why is because it used alliteration. For example, one sentence was, “Neither you nor I”. My third reason why is because it used repetition. For example, every four lines it used who at the beginning of the sentence. I hope that “Who Has Seen The Wind” wins!

  1. The first poem,” Who Has Seen the Wind,” is about how you can not see the wind. You can see what causes it but you can’t see it.

The second poem,” If~,” is about how a Dad is telling a son that that not everybody will believe him.

My winner is,” Who Has Seen the Wind,” the rhyme scheme is ABCB and tells why you can’t see the wind.

  2. The first poem I read was “Choosing Shoes.” It is about all kinds of shoes, and so many to choose from. It asks what YOU would choose if you got to pick out any of those.

The second poem I read was “This Is Just to Say.” It is about a person who ate all of the plums in the icebox, that someone was probably saving for breakfast.

I chose “Choosing Shoes” as the winner. I have many reasons for picking it. I like the repetition, I like how the author came up with so many types of shoes, and I like the rhyme scheme AAAB. I thought it was very good, and I hope it wins!

  3. The first poem I read was called, “This is Just to Say”. It is about a man telling someone that he was the one who ate the plums. The rhyme scheme was ABCD.

The second poem I read was called, “Choosing Shoes”. This poem is about all kinds of different shoes, and they are unique in their own way.

I choose, “Choosing Shoes”. I like this poem because the author had lots of rhymes. It also has repetition. They say “Shoes” a lot of times.

  4. “Choosing Shoes” is about a person choosing all these shoes.

“ This Is Just to Say “ is about someone just saying that they ate a plum.

    The winner should be “ Choosing Shoes “ because it reminds me of a Doctor Suess book I had when I was little. It a;so has rhyme scheme, it is A A A B A A A B A A A B C A A A B.

  5. The first poem I read was “This Is Just to Say.” It is about a person that eats someone’s plums and they ask for forgiveness. And before you eat someone’s plums for breakfast to ask them first. I think the writer wrote this poem to tell other readers to not eat somebody’s plums in the morning.
The second poem I read was called”Choosing Shoes.” It is about a person going to get some shoes and is thinking of when kind they’ll get. They are thinking about white shoes, house shoes, almost any shoes, but when they get there they see that they only have flat shoes, fat shoes, wipe-them-on-the-mat-shoes. I think the writer wrote this poem to tell readers to not get so excited about shoe shopping.
I think the winner is “Choosing Shoes” because it has a lot of writers craft. For example, one of the writer's craft is they have good rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme is AAAB. another example is they have good alliteration. For example, buckle shoes, bow shoes, dandy-dance-by-night-shoes. I chose “Choosing Shoes” because it had good rhyme scheme, I hope “Choosing Shoes” wins!

  6. The first poem I read was “This Is Just To Say.” It is a poem in first person about someone telling someone else about the sweet, cold, prunes that the second person was going to have for breakfast and how the first person ate them. I hope for the first person’s sake that the second person wasn’t that passionate for prunes!

The second poem, “Choosing Shoes,” is a poem in first person as well as “This Is Just To Say.” It is about someone in a shoe store trying on new shoes, and trying to find a good pair. She describes the shoes as red, blue, buckle, bow, bright, white, pointy-toed, strappy, a little too tight, and so much more. Then she finds the kind of shoes her parents are buying: flat and fat. I hope she will find some she likes!

I think very strongly that “Choosing Shoes” is the winner because it has a rhyme scheme of AAABCCCBDDDBEEEEB throughout the poem. It also gives the shoes lots of description. Lastly, like “Casey At The Bat,” it makes you feel like it’s all great, sunshine, and rainbows, but it is not.
    “Choosing Shoes” should win!

  8. The first poem I read was, “This is just to Say.” This poem is about eating somebody’s plum, and was trying to save their part and covering it up.

The second poem,” Choosing Shoes.” This poem is about any kind of shoes to pick in the shoe store.

I think the winner is “Choosing Shoes” because I think that “Choosing Shoes” has a better rhyme scheme of AAAB then “This is just to Say” I hope that “Choosing Shoes” is the winner!

  10. “This Is Just to Say” was the first poem I read. It was about how one person has eaten a plum that someone else was saving. They were saying they were sorry and for the person to forgive them.

The second poem I read was, “Chosing Shoes.” This poem is about how the person wants to get colorful and playful shoes, but their parents want them to buy shoes that arent colorful or playful.

I think the winner is “Choosing Shoes.” The reason I chose Chosing Shoes is because it has repition, alliteration, and rhyme scheme. Repition is used when they say “New shoes, new shoes.” Alliteration is used when it says “pointy pointy.” The rhyme scheme is AAAB.

  11. The first poem I read was “This Is Just To Say”. “This Is Just To Say” is about a boy or girl who ate someone's plum, and saying sorry because he thought the other person would eat it for breakfast.

The second poem I read was “Choosing Shoes”. “Choosing Shoes” is about a person who if she/he should buy any shoes which one would they choose. It has many shoes with great rhyme scheme.

I choose “Choosing Shoes” because its rhyme scheme for the first paragraph is A,A,A,B. It also has repetition by saying it shoes over and over again. Don’t forget it has alliteration, by saying pretty-pointy. I also think it is cool because it shows that there are many shoes in the world. It reminds me of Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss.

  12. The first poem I read was “Choosing Shoes.” It is about choosing the best type of new shoes. It gives us many varieties to choose from. For example, it is giving us regular shoes to dance shoes. I noticed that it was second person because it was talking to us.

The second poem I read was “This Is Just To Say.” It is about someone who ate plums that somebody was saving for breakfast. He described the plum as sweet, cold, and delicious. Even though the plum was delicious, I think he felt bad and sorry because somebody was saving it for breakfast. I noticed that is was first person because it used pronouns like I and me.

I pick “Choosing Shoes” as the winner because it used imagery. For example, every time it brought up a new shoe I pictured it in my head. Another reason why is because it used repetition. For example, it brought up shoes a lot in the poem. My third reason why is because it used alliteration. For example, one sentence was “Buckle shoes, white shoes”. My final reason is because I liked the rhyme scheme of AAABAAABAAABCAAAB. I hope that “Choosing Shoes” wins!!!!!

  13. The first poem, “This is Just to Say,”is about someone is telling the reader that they had eaten all of the plumbs from the ice box.

“Choosing Shoes,” is about a colored person wanting to choose all different types of shoes but can’t.

I think “Choosing Shoes,” is the winner by far because it uses repetition. For example it uses the word shoes a ton of times. Also it has rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme for the first stanza is ,AAAB. That is why I think “Choosing Shoes,” should win.

  14. “This Is Just to Say” is about a boy who ate plums in the ice box which were cold, sweet, and delicious, which someone was probably saving to have for breakfast and how he wants them to forgive him. I think this was written to entertain readers with a silly story about someone who ate plums when they weren’t supposed to.

The second poem I read, “Choosing Shoes,” is about someone who wanted to choose shoes but couldn’t and how the person would choose bright shoes or white shoes but another person would choose fat shoes or flat shoes. I think this poem was written to entertain readers about a story about choosing from lots of shoes.

I choose “Choosing Shoes” because it reminds me of a Doctor Suess book I have. The author used alliteration when they said “Dandy-dance-by-night shoes,” and “Pretty pointy-toe shoes.” My next reason is because the author used repetition when repeating the word shoes. Also, the author used rhyme scheme. The first stanza it was AAAB. “Choosing Shoes” was a great poem, and I hope it wins.

  15. “This Is Just to Say” is about someone who ate the plums that were in the icebox. The person who ate the plums is apologizing that they ate someone's breakfast. I think that the person who ate the plums isn’t really sorry that they ate the plums. The person says “ Forgive me they were delicious so sweet and so cold.” That is what “This Is Just to Say” is about.

“Choosing Shoes” is about how there are so many types of shoes to choose from at a store. The character is talking about who buys which shoes other people will buy. The author used repetition by repeating the word shoes a lot. The author uses alliteration by saying “Dandy-dance.” The rhyme scheme is AAAB. I always have had a hard time choosing shoes at a store. I always look for the shoes that look cool. I will always look for the brands that I like next. I then do a process of elimination for which shoes I’ll get. That is what I think the poem “Choosing Shoes,” is about.

I pick “This Is Just to Say” as the winner of this matchup. I love how the author has a funny approach to the poem. Also, I like how the author has a very uncommon rhyme scheme it is ABCD. This poem reminds me of a book of poems that my sister had that were about pretending to be sorry. It also reminds me of the song, “Sorry not Sorry,” by Demi Lovato. I like how the author made the poem unique by not having that much writer's craft. I think that the character is being sarcastic when he asks for forgiveness. I sometimes do this to my brother and sister. The author keeps me entertained throughout the poem. I hope, “This Is Just to Say,” wins this hard fought matchup!

  16. “This Is Just to Say is about someone who ate the plums that were in the ice box.(refrigerator) She/he was not supposed to eat them because it was supposed to be someone else’s breakfast. She/he said forgive me, but they were too delicious, so sweet and cold. This poem was funny!

The second poem I read was, “Choosing Shoes.” It’s about all the types of shoes you can get, and how colorful they are. They say there are “Red and pink and blue shoes. Buckle shoes, bow shoes, pretty pointy toe shoes, strappy, cappy low shoes, but flat shoes, fat shoes, stump- along -like that shoes, wipe-them -on-the- mat shoes. That’s the sort they’ll buy.”

I choose “Choosing Shoes” because it uses rhyme scheme, repetition and alliteration. For example, the rhyme scheme for the first stanza is AAAB. Some alliteration is “Buckle shoes, bow shoes.” Some repetition is “New shoes, new shoes.” The point of view is first person. This is a really funny book. It should definitely win!

  18. The first poem”this is just to say,” was a story in first person. Also I noticed that the poem is about someone saying sorry about eating their friends plums. I really like this funny poem.

The second poem”Choosing Shoes”is about how many shoes there are and how hard it is to choose shoes. I also noticed that this poem is supposed to entertain the reader. I really like this poem.

I choose”Choosing Shoes”because it has lots of rhyme scheme for enstens: AAAB AAAB AAAB AAAB. I also like this poem because it is funny and I really like it.

  19. The first poem, “This Is Just to Say,” is about someone who ate some plums from the fridge, but someone else was saving them for breakfast, but he says “Forgive me they were delicious, so sweet, so cold. I thought this poem was really funny because he stole someone else's plums that were delicious. I think the person that lost his plums will be mad at the guy who stole them. I think this poem was written to entertain readers with a story about someone who stole plums.

The second poem, “Choosing Shoes,” is about someone who is trying to buy shoes, and he names all kinds of shoes like “Red, and pink, and blue shoes.” “Buckle shoes, Bow shoes, and Dandy-dance-by-night-shoes.” BUT the only shoes they can afford are “Flat shoes, fat shoes, Wipe-them-on-the-mat-shoes. I like this poem because it reminds me of Dr.Seuss books like, One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish. I think this person will not get very nice shoes. I think this poem was written to entertain people with a fun story about choosing shoes.

I pick, “Choosing Shoes,” because it was very funny, and it had lots of writer’s craft, for example, the rhyme scheme was AAAB which is definitely one of my favorites, and the rhyme scheme for “This Is Just to Say,” was ABCD and I did not like that. I like how she tells us what type of shoes. Also, I like how she starts very positive like as if he was in a dream, but then the story turns with But. I really liked choosing shoes, and I think it should win.

    AAAB on the first paragraph.

The second poem “Choosing shoes,” is about a person who goes shoe shopping and looks at all of the different varieties of shoes.

I think the winner is “Choosing shoes,” because it shows a lot of writer’s craft and I love shoes. The first writer’s craft it shows is Rhyme Scheme the rhyme scheme is AAAB. The second writer’s craft it shows is Alliteration an example of alliteration is flat shoes, fat shoes or buckle shoes, bow shoes.

I chose the poem “This is Just to Say” because it was funny and I think that could happen in the real world. It was also short and sweet like a plum, and it was simple, but good.

  29. In the first poem “This Is Just to Say” is about a girl/boy who confesses that they had eaten the plums out of the ice box, and how delicious they were and how cold they were.

In the second poem “Choosing Shoes” is about somebody who loves to pick out shoes, but does not know what shoes to use

In my opinion I like “choosing shoes” better because of the alliteration and how it makes it more interesting and how it rhymes makes it way more fun to read.

  30. “ This Is Just to Say,” is about how a person ate the plums that were in the icebox, and they sent a note and said how delicious they were.

“ Choosing Shoes,” is about how many different types of shoes there are, and how they come in different styles and shapes even all different colors.

“ Choosing Shoes,” By Ffrida Wolfe is my favorite because it uses rhyme scheme it is AAABAAABAAABCAAB in the whole poem, and it uses imagery because it describes the shoes.

  31. The first poem I read is called, “This Is Just to Say,” by William Carlos Williams. “This Is Just To say,” is about someone that has eaten some plums and now is saying you probably were saving them for breakfast. The third verse of the poem is about how she or he is sorry and that the plums were delicious and sweet.
The second poem is, “Choosing Shoes,”by Frida Wolfe. “Choosing Shoes,” is about a man that is selling shoes. He uses adjectives such as flat shoes, fat shoes.
For me the winner is “This Is Just to Say,” by William Carlos Williams. Because I don’t like what the author wrote about in “Choosing Shoes,”. Also I think it's funny and ironic that someone apologizes and then goes into say that the plums were delicious. I like the poem, “This Is Just to Say,” by William Carlos Williams.

  32. The first poem I read today was called “This Is Just to Say’’. This poem is about a person who was probably not supposed to eat some plums, but did. That person talked about how they were so cold, sweet, and delicious. The plums were in the icebox and she had to have them. Even know they were probably going to be for breakfast. The poem I just read was probably to entertain readers with a fun poem like this.

The second poem I read today was called “Choosing Shoes”. This poem is about someone telling about all of the many types of shoes there are. For example, the shoes the person talking about are good, okay, or not very good. The rhyme scheme for the whole poem is AAAB. Repetition for this poem is that the poem keeps on repeating the word shoes.

I think the poem “this Is Just to Say” should win. I think this poem should win because it can entertain readers with a sly person who stole some plums. At times this could be a fun joke to people. Also sometimes I think something is really rich and taste very good. I just don’t won’t to stop eating that food. Those are somereasons why I chose the poem “This Is Just to Say” to win.

The second poem I read was “This is just to say”. This poem was about a man who ate someone's plums, and who they tasted.

The second poem, “Choosing Shoes,” is about someone who goes to a shoe store and names different types of shoes.

I choose “Choosing Shoes” as the winner because it has a lot of repetition and uses adjectives to describe them. For example, It says “Bright shoes, white shoes, dandy-dance-by-night shoes. It seems like it is everyday life. I think this poem is to entertain readers about people who go to shoe stores. That is why “Choosing Shoes” is the winner.

  38. The first poem,’’Choosing Shoes,” is about someone at a shoe store choosing shoes. They talk about all the different shoes they have. The author's purpose is to entertain. It has a lot of writers craft. I think the point of view is third person.
The second poem,’’This is Just to Say,’’ is about someone eating a plum from the ‘Ice Box’. It has alliteration when it says,’’So Sweet’. This is a ok poem.

For example the author said,’’Dandy-Dance-by-night shoes.’’ The main reason I like this poem is because it was funny. I hope it will win!!
