Image result for roger the dogImage result for falling star

Read Game 2 poems, "Roger the Dog" and "The Falling Star." Answer each question below. Remember to explain WHY you chose the winner based on poet's craft (rhyme, line breaks, punctuation, simile/metaphor, word choice, repetition) AND your personal connection to the meaning. Don't forget to write with M.I.N.T.S.!

Your post needs to include the following:
1. What is the meaning of the first poem? (Summarize in one sentence)
2. What is the meaning of the second poem? (Summarize in one sentence)
3. Based on the criteria, which poem did you choose and WHY?
***Please tell me everything you think, but use your best writing.

Here is an example of proficient writing:
The first poem, "Dust of Snow," is about a boy who is having a bad day until a crow lands on the tree above him, shakes the dust of snow on him, and gives his heart a change of mood.

The second poem, "Mother to Son," is about a mother and a son. The mother had a rough life which she compared to a set of stairs that she had a rough time climbing. She told her son to not give up and keep moving forward when life gets hard.

I choose "Mother to Son" as the winner because it touched my heart and showed me that no matter if something is hard you should always move forward. Also, the author repeated lines to emphasize the message. It is a great story because it teaches you to persevere. That is why I chose Mother to Son.

  1. The first poem, “Roger the Dog,” is about a very lazy dog who doesn’t want to do anything but rest.

The second poem, “The Falling Star,” is about a bright star shining through the night and people making wishes as it goes by and finally gone.

I think the winner is “Roger the Dog,” because I love dogs and I think it’s funny how Roger has no desire to get up and walk around.

  2. First book is,”The Falling Star”, it is about a person seeing a star falling down from the sky,and telling about how pretty it was and that it was good only for making wishes on.

  3. The first poem I read, “Roger the Dog,” is about a very lazy dog. The dog named Roger only awakens for things like scratching his fleas. The dog also hogs things like the fire. Roger loves to eat and saves all of his energy for eating.

The second poem I read was, “Falling Star”. I think that this poem is about a shooting star. The star is very fast and hot. The author says, “I saw a star slide down the sky.” The author made a wish on the star and then they said it was gone forever.

In my opinion the poem, “Roger the Dog,” won. I think that it won because I like the similes. The author used similes such as, “You can lug him like a log.” and, “He bakes his head as if it were a loaf of bread.” I also liked the rhyme scheme. For example, “Asleep he wheezes at his ease. He only wakes to scratch his flees.”

  8. The poem “, Roger the Dog”, is about a very lazy and slow going dog. The dog won’t ever put effort into things he doesn’t want to do, but when it when comes to something he wants to do he does with effort.

The poem “, The Falling Star”, is about a person who sees a beautiful star. The person thinks that the star is unique and is too lovely to for someone to keep. The person takes their time to see the star because later the star will pass.

I think the poem “, Roger the Dog”, should win because Roger is lazy when comes to exercise, but when it comes to food he’ll actually put effort into something he does. Sometimes I have a connection because I can be lazy at times. One part I really like is a simile, the simele is when the story says that Roger hogs the fire and bakes his head as if were a piece of bread.

  22. The first poem, “Roger the Dog”, is about a dog that will not do anything all day. The only time he will put effort into anything is when he really wants to do it. I think this poem was written to entertain readers with a silly story about a lazy dog.

The second poem, “The Falling Star”, is about a girl who saw a falling star. She loved the star because it was so beautiful. You could never contain its beauty in any form unless you saw it yourself. Its one of a kind beauty reminds me that everyone is different, and they are beautiful in their own way.

I pick “The Falling Star”, because of its beautiful message and the choice of wordage. I love the words and rhymes she used in this poem. I love when she said “ Too lovely to be bought or sold” because that reminds me of a song called “Millionaire” The song is about love and how can not be bought or sold.

  30. I read the first poem, “Roger the Dog.” This poem is about a dog, Roger, who is a calm, lazy dog. From the text I can tell that he is a lazy, fat/big, and seems like an old dog. If you read the [poem you can probably tell he loves to eat.

The second poem I read was “ The Falling Star.” This poem was about a shooting star. It has lots of similes and does not tell you it is a shooting star you just have to use context clues to find out. It also has another meaning that meaning is sort of has a girl who is wishing on a star.

I think the winner is “Roger the Dog” because it has good describing like, “Like a minor, into sleep . It also has good rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme is A…. The author also uses similes to compare the dog to things. For example, “He hogs the fire, he bakes his head as if it was a loaf of bread”.
