Poetry Madness: Elite Eight, Game 2!

Roger the Dog and Who Has Seen the Wind? will face off. Answer each question below. Remember to explain WHY you chose the winner based on poet's craft (rhyme, line breaks, punctuation, simile/metaphor, word choice, repetition) AND your personal connection to the meaning. Don't forget to write with M.I.N.T.S.!

  1. The first poem, Roger the Dog, is about a lazy dog who uses all of his energy to eat.
    The second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind, is about wind blowing through leaves and trees, but you can't see it, but you know it's there.
    I like Roger the Dog the best. I like the rhyme scheme AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH. I also like it because it is more entertaining and funny. That is why I chose Roger the Dog.

  2. Roger the Dog is about a dog who loves to sleep and he only get's up when it's dinner time. It also has the rhyme scheme AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH.
    Who has seen the wind is about how we can't see the wind like we can't see God, but when we pray the wind passes us and God prays to us.
    I choose Who Has Seen The Wind because it has a way better meaning and it drew a better picture.

  3. Roger The Dog is about a dog that is very lazy. He will not do anything but eat and sleep. Also if his owner takes him on a walk, he will just fall down.
    Who Has Seen The Wind is about someone asking who has seen the wind. He is saying that we may not be able to see it, but the trees tell us.
    I choose Roger The Dog because it is a funny and entertaining story. The rhyme scheme is AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH. Also I love dogs!

  4. The first poem, Roger the dog, is about a lazy dog that only saves his bit of energy for eating. The rhyme scheme is AABBCCDD and so on.
    The second poem, Who has seen the wind, is about God and how people are bowing down just in the form of nature like god is the wind and the people are the trees.
    I choose, Who has seen the wind, because it was really cool how they were immatating people and god as nature.

  5. The first poem, Who Has Seen the Wind, is about a boy saying that know one has seen the wind.

    The second poem, Roger the Dog, is about a dog who is really lazy or should I say a loaf of bread, That never exercises.

    I chose as the winner is, Roger the Dog, I chose this poem because it was more funny than Who Has Seen the Wind and I like that the poem rhymes. That is why I chose Roger The Dog as the winner.

    The poem,Who Has Seen the Wind, Is about how you can not see god , but he is there.

    I think the winner is Roger the dog! I picked this poem, because I like the rhyme scheme AABBAABB. I also picked this poem, because I love dogs!

    I chose Who Has Seen the Wind because it tells a nice story about God.Also,I thought the imagery was good.

  8. The first poem , Roger The Dog, is about a dog that is really lazy and always lays on the ground and doesn't do much but sleep.

    The second poem, Who Has Seen The Wind, is about a person saying who gas seen the wind and saying how you know the wind is there for example, but when the trees bow down their heads, the wind is passing by.

    My favorite poem was who has seen the wind because it was saying you cant see the wind but you know it's there and the poem said how you know it's there.

    The second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind?,Is about someone saying who has seen the wind nor I nor you. It is about saying even though you cant see it dosent mean its not there, But I chose,Rodger the Dog, because of its humor and entertainment.

  10. Roger the Dog was about a dog who saves all of his energy to eat then he goes to sleep for a long time. Who Has Seen the Wind was about trees who cannot see the wind but feel the wind just like us. I like the poem, Roger the Dog because it was funny and

    Who Has Seen the Wind? is about a guy who is asking you who has seen the wind, and then he gives examples of how to know the wind is there.

    I choose Roger the dog because I like the way the author uses the rhyme scheme, AA, BB, CC, DD, EE, FF, GG, HH.

  12. The first poem, Rodger The Dog, is about a dog who is very lazy. He even uses all his strength to eat. Obviously this dog is not the healthy type.

    The second poem, Who Has Seen The Wind, is about a child asking everybody who has seen the wind. Nobody has seen the wind but has felt it. Have you seen the wind?

    I think, Rodger The Dog is the winner because this dog will not move around at all and it is really funny. This dog is just like my dog lazy.

    The second poem,Who Has Seen the Wind, is about the wind. It tells that no one has ever seen the wind.
    I choose ... Roger the Dog as winner! I loved how the poet rhymed and still made it funny. The poet used the rhymm scheme AA BB CC... I loved both poems!

  14. The first poem, Roger the dog, is about a really lazy dog. He loves to eat food and sleep. he will eat anything you put in front of him.

    The second poem, Who has seen the Wind, is about someone telling us that if you trust in God he will be with you even more.

    I think Roger the dog should win because it has really good rhyme scheme. It is also a really funny story about a dog who is lazy. The dog loves to eat. I think Roger the dog should go to the final four.

  15. Roger the dog is about lazy dog that will never get up but to eat. Who Has Seen the Wind is about no one seeing the wind but hearing and seeing what the wind moves. I choose Roger the Dog because I like that the dog is lazy and never gets up and the rhyme scheme is aabbccddeeffgghhii.

  16. The first poem is, Roger the Dog, it's about a dog who does nothing but sleep. He is very lazy, won't workout, and eats a lot.

    The second poem is, Who Has Seen the Wind, it's about not able to see wind, but able to see what it does.

    I choose Roger the Dog the winner because it tells what kind of dog Roger is, what he does for a living, and the poem has better rhymes.

    The second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind, is about how you can't see him but feel him.
    I think the winner is Roger the Dog because I like dogs and Roger and I have a connection we both like to be lazy. I love god also and he is with me and I love him and he loves us. I think the writers craft is imagery because it gives me an image of a boy looking at the sky wating for god and a dog sleeping on a carpet.

  18. The first poem,Roger the Dog, is about a dog named Roger and he is asleep by the fire, but here is the twister he is not just by the fire he is hogging the fire.

    The second poem,How Has Seen he Wind, is about that no one has seen the wind but when you see the leaves blowing throw the air you now that the wind is there.

    The poem I choose is Roger the Dog because I love dogs and that is like my dogs. Also the writers craft is every two lines.

    I think the winner is..... Roger the Dog because the whole poem rhymes and I can picture the poem in my head. The rhyme scheme is AA.

  20. The poem Rodger The Dog is a funny poem about a fat dog who eats a lot and loves to sleep all the time.

    The other poem Who Has Seen The Wind explains how you cannot see the wind but you can feel the wind.

    I liked Rodger The Dog because of it's humor,the poem details about what the dog does,and I liked it because it had a great rhyme scheme.

Who has seen the wind is about a person that has not seen the wind but knows when it is there (FREAKY). I like Roger the dog because it reminds me of my dog that past away when I was little so i paint a pic. in my head of him.

  25. The first poem, Choosing Shoes,is about a person who is at a shoe store. And there is so many shoes he doesn't know what to pick for his shoe.


    The second poem, Life Doesn't Frighten me, is about a girl. And she's not afraid of any thing.And it names everything you could think of.


    The winner is ..... Life doesn't Frighten me. I liked it because it has a rhyme scheme which is AA BB CC DD. And it shows imagery. Thank You.

  26. The first poem,Roger The Dog, is about a dog named Roger who is very lazy and when I say very lazy I mean it! To give you an example he uses all of his energy to eat his food.

    The second poem,Who Has Seen The Wind, is about Clues of how you can tell that the wind is near. For example, it says ,"But when the leaves hang trembling, the wind is passing through.".

    My favorite poem was Roger The Dog. I like it because of it's rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme is AABBCCDDEEFFGGHH.

  27. The first poem, Choosing Shoes, is about a girl who is getting new shoes. She is admiring how pretty all the other shoes and wishing she could have some. However, she knows she is getting regular shoes.

    Life Doesn't Frighten Me is about a kid who is telling us all the things that scare other people but don't scare him. He thinks things don't scare him because he keeps a magic charm.

    I chose Choosing Shoes because it has a rhyme scheme. For example: the poem goes like this, AAA B AAA B, all the way through. It also uses imagery when it says, "Flat shoes, fat shoes,". It also is kind of a tonge twister.

  28. The poem, Roger the Dog, is about a lazy dog that just sits alone in his bed all day. I really like this poem because I really like dogs and I know how they can be lazy. I think it was a really good idea to write this poem. This poem is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!



    The poem, Who Has Seen The Wind, is about people never seeing the wind but the trees do. This poem is kind of weird.



    I chose..........Roger the Dog. I chose that one because one, I has better imergry, two, it deescribes everything better. And third It is so much easier to understand.

  29. The first poem, Roger the Dog, was about a big, fat, lazy dog. All he does is sleep, he also saves all of his energy for eating his dinner.

    The second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind, was about somebody telling somebody else that neither one of them have seen the wind. He also says that when the trees bow down their heads the wind is passing by.

    I chose who has seen the wind because I could paint a picture in my mind about the trees rustling and bowing their heads.

  31. The first poem. Roger the dog, is about a person explaining how his dog uses his strength only to sleep and eat. Also, when he takes Roger out for exercise, all he does is roll in cow poop.
    The second poem, Who Has Seen the Wind?, is about someone asking who has seen the wind? Also, the poem gives you details on what the wind does when you can't see it.
    I think the winner is Roger the Dog. The reason I chose this poem is because I have a dog and he likes to roll in poop too. Another reason is because of the writer's craft. This poem had a rhyme scheme too:A A B B skipping a line every time.

    The second poem,Who Has Seen the Wind? is about the wind and how the only way you know that the wind is passing by is if you see the trees swaying back and forth.

    I chose Roger the Dog as the winner because I had a connection with Roger and my dog.Also it is really cute how the dog only wants to lay down and sleep,or eat his food.It had a great simile in the poem of "He bakes his head as if it was a loaf of bread .That is why I chose Roger the Dog as the winner.

    I choose Roger the Dog because it has a rhyme scheme. For example: the poem goes like this AA BB CC, and so on. Also, the poem uses imagery when it says, "He hogs the fire, he bakes his head." It also uses a simile because it is comparing a head to bread. I also like it because it is funny.
