Here is an example of proficient writing:
I think that the first poem,”Roger The Dog,” by Ted Hughes, is about a dog that always sleeps, except when he is called to eat. I think that the mood was very lazy because if you try to take him for a walk he doesn’t go and saves his energy to eat and sleep. I also think that this poem is relatable because some days we are tired, and all we want to do is sleep.
I think the second poem,”The Falling Star,” by Sara Teasdale, is about someone who barely saw a falling star, but when she did see it, she thought it was beautiful as it went by in a glimpse. I think the mood is peaceful, because there was barely a sound as it went across the sky.
I chose “Roger The Dog” because it was more relatable. The rhyme scheme was AABBCC, and so on. I also loved the second two lines because it had a great simile which was, ”He hogs the fire, he bakes his head /As if it were a loaf of bread.” I think the simile means that he was sleeping by the fire, and he was tilting his head. This poem made me laugh, and I loved the simile.

The first poem, “Casey at Bat,” was a great poem. It was about a boy that was not good at baseball but looked good. It was the bottom of the ninth inning and Casey was up to bat. The crowd went wild Casey did nothing on the first pitch, and then nothing on the second. There were two strikes. It was all up to him. Then he sadly struck out. The mood of this poem was playful.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, “The Eagle,” is about a eagle on a cliff and he was looking down. And it said like a thunderbolt he falls. The rhyme scheme is AAABBB. There is a smile that is like a thunderbolt he falls. The writer's craft was rhyme because the were good rhymes.
I chose,”Casey at Bat” because very line was a rhyme. The writers
craft was 100% rhymes. There were great rhymes like “day and play. That and bat. All and ball.” The rhyme scheme is AABBCCDDEE and so on. It was also a funny.
The first poem is “ The Eagle” by Alfred Lord Tennyson. It is about how an eagle catching its prey. The mood is fierce because in the poem the writer makes the eagle sound fierce.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, “Casey at the Bat,” by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, is about a very famous baseball player who misses the ball and makes the team lose. Then he can’t hit it anymore. I think the mood is suspenseful because the team you want to win is losing, and then the best player is up, but you don’t know if he is going to make it.
I choose “The Eagle”because it has a rhyme scheme of AAA BBB.I also had words that were interesting like “azure” which is a blue and “crag” which is a cliff.I also like how he said crooked hands instead of saying talents.I like how there is a simile which is “And he falls like a thunderbolt.” “The Eagle” is the winner.

I chose Casey at the Bat because Casey is capletly fine after the first two strikes then the third one he goes bonkers. The team and the fan trusted him.

I think the mood of “Casey at the Bat” is sadness. I think Casey is very disappointed that he struck out because the whole team and fans were counting on him.
DeleteThe meaning of the story is when Casey get struck out for the winning hit.
The meaning of “The Eagle” is the eagle puts his claws out and he is enjoying the mountain bolt flash by. The mood is enjoying the mountain bolt and listening to the peaceful sea.
The winner is “Casey at the Bat” because Casey is so calm when he gets his first strikes but then the third one he goes crazy over it and the team and fan trusted him to win the game.
ReplyDeleteThe first poem, “The Eagal,” by Alfred b Lord Tennyson, is about an eagal looking over his perch. He will go and fall down and dive of his perch. This is a peaceful poem.
The second poem,”Casey at the Bat,” by Ernest Lorence Thayer, is about a baseball team who was losing 4 to 2 in the nineth ining. The team had two outs and a guy on third, second, and first. Casey was at bat and stuck out. This is a playful poem.
I choose “Casey at Bat” because it was more relatable It also had a rhyme scheme of AABB.
“Casey at Bat” is a great poem.
The first poem,”The Eagle,” by Alfred Lord Tennyson, is about how an eagle lives and how what his body parts do.It also tells us about the daily life of a eagle, and what they do all day. The mood of the story is kind of lonely because the poem says,”He clasps the crag with crooked hands;Close to the sun in the lonely lands,Ringed with the azure world he stands.” I like how the poem describes the eagle and what they are doing.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem,”Casey at the Bat,”by Ernest Lawrence Thayer is about how every one was betting money on Casey to hit the winning ball. Then when Casey swung his bat, and strike one. Everyone could not believe that he missed it. He swang again, strike two and every one started yelling. He swang for the third time and strike three and your out. Casey was so mad.I think the mood of the story is selfish because Casey thought he was the best even though he wasn’t.
I choose “The Eagle” because I like how it described the eagle and what was happening. I really enjoyed the rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme was AAA BBB.I choose this poem because of the meaning of how the eagle falls. “The Eagle” is the winner.

The first poem”,The Eagle,” is by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. My favorite part of this poem is when the eagle is on the cliff and sees the sea and says,”The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls he watches from his mountain walls, and like a thunderbolt he falls.” I think this poem is peaceful because it is on a cliff and it is quiet on the cliff.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem”,Casey at the Bat,” is by Ernest Lawrence Thayer. It was a very long but very interesting poem. This poem is the most relatable. This poem has violence in it.The mood is violent, because the crowd all screamed kill him, kill the umpire.
I choose,”Casey at the Bat,”because it is the most relatable and it is an interesting poem to read. I think it is teaching us to never wait to do anything just go ahead and take a whack at it. It also had a rhyme scheme of AABB.

The poem, “Casey at the Bat,” by Ernest Thayer, was about Mudville Nine. A baseball team was down 4-2 with no outs and the at the bottom of the ninth. The mood was hopeful and sad or gloomy. The crowd wanted Casey to be up but the two worst stood in front. Then they both hit and got runners on 2nd and 3rd.Then Casey was up and the crowd was ecstatic. Then came strike 1, then strike 2, then he was mad, wanted a hit, and was gripping the bat so hard he probably could have snapped it in two. Then for what seemed like an eternity later came the pitch. It left his hands, went around in circles, twirls, and twists, and finally, finally came S-T-R-I-K-E….. 3 YOURR OUTT!The crowd was mad the couch was mad and Casey he was just plain ‘ol upset. He was there crying, mad, and yelling even hours and hours after the game. Just trying to hit the ball.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, “The Eagle,” by Lord Alfred Tennyson, was about an eagle who was dying and was grasping the cliff so he didn’t fall, but as he looks down at the sea he lost consciousness and fell down the cliff to never be seen. Also I pictured an old eagle looking at the sun and grasping the cliff. Then as he looks down he sees the sea and sees something that makes him fall and lose balance and consciousness.
I choose “Casey at the Bat,” because of its rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme was AABBCCDD and so on.Another reason was its great detail and the movie seen really helped me put a picture in my mind to read and understand the poem. Then the way Casey was so cockey it made me feel like he was going to or should have struck out.Next, he was so mad at himself instead of being mature and taking the fault that let his teammates not even matter that they got him up to bat. Finally, the thing that really got me was where he struck out to win the game even though he was “supposedly” the best hitter and/ot player and was favored by the stats and the crowd.I guess the pressure of being the best and cockiness got to his head.

The first poem, “Casey At The Bat,” by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, is about a lazy baseball team that is down by two hits. The only player that is not lazy is a player named Casey. The first two players get out easily, and there is still two players to go before Casey is at bat. Those two players somehow hit the ball and get a player on second and third base. Then, it is Casey’s turn at bat. The first pitch comes, and Casey does not like the pitch. Everybody boos and yells at the umpire. Somebody even wanted to kill the umpire, but before anybody can do anything Casey raises his hand, and calms everybody down. The second pitch comes, and Casey does not like that pitch either. Everybody boos and yells again, and even Casey is getting angry at the umpire. Finally everybody calms down, and the game goes on. The third pitch comes and it says,”Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright,The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light; And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout, But there is no joy in Mudville-mighty Casey has struck out.” Also, the mood is goofy because there is silly ways that they hit the ball.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem,”The Eagle” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, is about an eagle that is watching for prey on a cliff. After a little while the eagle finds prey and swoops down into the ocean to get it. I think the mood is peaceful because it is in the nature.
I choose,”Casey at The Bat,” because i like that the mood was goofy. I also liked that there was a rhyme scheme in it because it gave me a good pace to read the poem. The rhyme scheme was AABBCC and so on.

In the first poem "The Eagle,"by Alfred and Lord Tennyson, is about how the eagle watches his pray and waits, and about the position he is in.
ReplyDeleteIn the second poem"Cosey at the Bat," By Lawrence Theyer, is about the ninth inning of a baseball game, and a boy that never strikes out is at the bat. He gets 2 strikes and then finally strikes out, and his team loses.
I like "The Eagle" better because it tells a story of an eagle watching pray. It also has a perfect rhyme scheme AAABBB. I also like how well the author explains the story to you.
Asher
In the poem,“The Eagle,” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, is about an eagle ready to fly! I think that the mood of the poem is free. It shows that the eagle is at the edge of a mountain ready to release its wings and FLY!!
ReplyDeleteIn the poem, “Casey at the Bat,” by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, is about a baseball game. Casey is about to go and has to make it or his team loses. He misses the ball and gets really mad. The mood is nerve wracking because if he misses the ball his team will lose.
I chose “Casey at the Bat” because it could be a real situation. You are down, and you miss the last hit in the game. It also shows the rhyme scheme of AABB. I could imagine this poem in my head.
-Maggie Kate #6
The first poem,”The Eagle,” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, was about an eagle that wanted to fly. The eagle did fly!!! I liked the simile “Like a thunderbolt he falls.” I liked the way they compared an eagle to a thunderbolt.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, “Casey at the Bat” by Ernest Lawrence Thayer was about a baseball team that was very odd. But Casey was just...well...a little bit over confident.
The poem I chose was, “Casey at the Bat!” I picked this one because it was more interesting, and it had more to tell you. I also really like baseball games! The rhyme scheme for the last paragraph is, A,A,B,B. I really liked this one! This is why I chose “Casey at the Bat,” by Ernest Lawrence Thayer.
The mood of the first poem,”Casey at the Bat,”, by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, is upset, because Casey is upset that she stuck out. I think that the meaning is that even if you lose, be a good sport
ReplyDeleteThe mood of the second poem,”The Eagle,” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson is bravery. I think that the meaning of the poem is be brave, even when you don’t want to be.
I choose “The Eagle,” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, because I like the rhyme scheme, (AAABBB), the mood, and the meaning.
-Sethie
The first poem,”The Eagle,”Is about a eagle that is on top of a cliff and goes down for his food as fast as he can and falls. I thought this was a kind of sad story because when it says the eagle falls its kinda sad.But when the eagle gets his food its a happy poem.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem,”Casey at the Bat,” is about a guy named Casey and he gets 1 strike then another ,and even another in baseball. When he fails and he strikes out, I feel like Casey tried to be the best and tried so hard that he just couldn't do that and he felt so confident and got overwhelmed.
I chose ”Casey at the Bat”because I thought it was a meaningful poem, and something everybody could learn at a time, and it teaches you don't always be so confident and concentrate and try hard. The rhyme scheme is AABB in all of the paragraphs like this,”It looked extremely rocky for the Mudville nine that day;The score stood two to four, with but one inning left to play. So,when Cooney died at second, and Burrows did the same,A pallor wreathed the features of the patrons of the game.”
-Ellie
The first poem, “The Eagle,” by Lord, Alfred Tennyson, is about an eagle that is hunting, and he jumps off a crag into the water to get a fish.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, “Casey at Bat,” by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, is about a baseball star that is over confident. But he lets down his team when they need him to win a game.
I chose the poem “Casey at Bat” because I like baseball and the rhyme scheme was really good like: “the sneer is gone in Casey’s lip, his teeth are clenched in hate- he pounds with cruel vengeance his bat upon the plate” The rhyme scheme is AABB
The first poem, “The Eagle,” by Alfred Lord Tennyson, is a interesting poem about an eagle. The eagle is flying around above a ocean then lands on top of a rocky cliff. At the end I guess he flies down to the water and catches its prey.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, “Casey at the Bat,” by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, is a poem about Mudville down two to four with one inning to play, but Cooney got to second and so did Burrows. Then Casey, the best hitter on the team, comes to bat, but then Casey strikes out.
I chose the second poem, “Casey at the Bat,” as the winner because it teaches you a lesson that the best isn’t always the best. Also I liked the rhyme scheme (AABBCCDDEEDDFFGG…).
-Charlie G.
The first poem, “The Eagle,” is about an eagle that is on a mountain. The eagle jumps off of a mountain and flys over a ocean. I think the meaning is that eagles are brave because the eagle jumped of a cliff while he was sourrounded by water.
ReplyDeleteThe poem, “Casey At The Bat,” is about a baseball game, and the score is 2-4. All the bases are loaded. Casey is up at bat and doesn’t swing [ strike one]. He doesn’t swing for the next ball [strike two]. Then, for the third he swings but misses the ball the umpire yells strike three your out to Casey. I think the meaning is that he was too confident, because he didn’t swing for the first and second but swung for the third.
I chose “Casey at The Bat” because it uses really good rhyme scheme for example, AABB. I also chose this poem because, it tells a story in the poem. That is why I chose the poem ‘’Casey at The Bat.”
-Bryan
The first poem, “The Eagle,” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson is about a eagle that is happy and lives in lonely lands. It also says “like a thunderbolt he falls” of the mountain to fly. I think the mood is happy and brave. The meaning is to not be scared and to be brave.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, “Casey at the Bat,” by Ernest Lawrence Thayer ,is about Casey at the plate with two strikes last inning the score is two to zero their winning. So the pitcher throws the ball and he misses! I think the mood of the story is mad and frustrated. I think the meaning is to not get really mad even if you lose to be a bad sport.
I chose “The Eagle”, by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, because I like the rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme is AAABBB. The story also makes me put a picture in my mind the picture is a brave eagle on a cliff ready to fly.
From,
Emerson
The first poem, “The Eagle,” is about an eagle who is on a cliff watching the sea and feels like he is strong and like a thunderbolt. He falls means that he falls off the cliff and probably going to fly and he feels sad because he is lonely.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, “Casey At the Bat,” is about a person who plays for the baseball team and all the girls love him. And a few people go up to bat they get out. Now it’s Casey's turn he go’s strike 1 the umpire says. The people in the crowd say kill the Umpire. Casey goes again the Umpire says strike 2 Casey has a sneer he goes again strike 3 your out the Umpire says. Casey is mad.
I think the second poem, “Casey at the Bat,” is better because it uses way more detail. And the poem is also better because it is longer. And it has al ot of characters that's why I think it is better.
ReplyDeleteThe poem,” Casey At The Bat,” is about a person named Casey at bat, and he struck out trying to find the perfect pitch and he lost the game for his team. The mood of this poem is calm and joyful. The meaning of this poem is not to be arrogant and not be too cocky.
The next poem,”The Eagle,” is about a eagle grabbing on to a cliff so he doesn't fall and die. Then the mountain walls collapse and like a thunderbolt he falls. The mood of this poem is sad and depressing. The meaning of this poem is to always be brave and trust in God.
I choose, “Casey At The Bat,” because I liked all of the rhyming and I like baseball. Also, the meaning is more important to me. The rhyme scheme is AABB. And I can relate to Casey because I have struck out in baseball too.
-Gavin
First is,’’The Eagle.’’ I really think they put good detail into this poem. I think you can really vision this poem even though it is so short. I think the mood of this poem is fierce because I think the bird is hunting on a mountain, and trying to find fish because they are surrounded by ocean.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem,’’ Casey at the Bat,’’was more of a story than a poem, and tones of detail because it it had like 7 paragraphs of just the ball. I think everyone was so anxious because they had 2 strikes and 2 people before her. Lucky them they did not get a strike for there team, than it was casey's turn and pressure was all on him. He missed first, and second now the last try is he going to make it no he does not they lost the game. I think the mood of this paragraph is suspense to me because they have know clue is what is going to happen next.
I choose’’ The Eagle’’ because I think it had really good detail because it felt like you can really visualize what is happening in the poem. I am surprised that in such a tiny poem it showed that much detail.
-Millie
I think "The Eagle" is kind of scary because the fish is about to die.
ReplyDeleteI think "Casey At The Bat" is sad because they have no hope of winning then excited because Casey is at bat. Then it gets really raging mad because Casey had 2 strikes. Finally, it was sad because they lost.
I chose "Casey At The Bat" to be my favorite because it had a lot of detail and it was much longer. I also liked the rhyme scheme. The rhyme scheme was AABB.
-Francie
The first poem, “The Eagle”, is about an eagle and what he does and what he looks like. I think the mood is fierce because it is about an eagle, and eagles are fierce.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, “Casey at the Bat”, is about a team of baseball player in a game against a good team and it is 2 to 4. They all hit the ball but then Casey is up at bat, the first hit Casey says “I don’t like it” the the umpire says “ssssssssssssssssssstttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee one”, then the crowd goes wild and they all say kill him, but Casey puts up his hand for them to quiet down. Then he throws another pitch and he misses “ssssssssssssssssstttttttttttttttttttttttrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee two”, then Casey gets mad and and tries to hit it but he misses and gets mad.
“Casey at the Bat” has my vote because I like baseball, and I liked how the storyline went. The rhyme scheme is AABB.
-James
‘’The Eagle’’ is by, Alfred, Lord Tennyson. It is about how an eagle is on a cliff and is overlooking the water. I think this is relaxing because on the first and second line on the second paragraph it says, ‘’The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls; He watches from his mountain wall.
ReplyDelete‘’Casey at the Bat’’ is by, Ernest Lawrence Thayer. Is about how Casey is the best player, but has a down game, and gets super mad at himself. The mood in my opinion is that Casey is selfish.
My favorite poem was ‘’The Eagle’’ because it sounds so relaxing just sitting there looking out at the ocean. I liked the rhyme scheme because it is different, the rhyme scheme is A-A-A-B-B-B.
I think the first poem, “ Casey at the Bat,” by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, is about a overachieving baseball player that only thinks of himself. Then, he is called up to bat he could win or lose, but he misses every single time.
ReplyDeleteThe next poem, “ The Eagle,” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, is descripting a eagle standing on a crag over a body of flowing water. It shows that he is king of everything .
I chose “The Eagle,” because it doesn’t tell you that he is a eagle you have to figure it out. The author uses personification when he says, “The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls.” The rhyme scheme is AAAA. I think this is the best poem between the two.
-Mary Martha
The first poem, “The Eagle,” by Alfred Lord Tennyson, explains an eagle a different way. The poem is about an eagle looking for its food. I think the mood is wondrous because it would be cool, and when people walk in nature you feel wondrous.
ReplyDeleteThe second poem, “Casey At Bat,” is by Ernest Lawrence Thayer. The poem is about a team playing baseball at the last inning where Casey was at bat. Everyone thought Casey could do it even him and the other the team does. But really Casey is horrible. I think the mood is intense because you were mad and excited.
My pick is “The Eagle” because I like eagles, and I thought Alfred explained the poem really well. The rime scheme is ABBA.
from -Elia
I think that the first poem,”Casey At The Bat,” by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, is about a major baseball team, Mudville Nine and the they are down by two points with one inning left. Blakey was at second base and Flynn at third, with everyone hopeless, but with Casey up to bat, everyone was hopeful. Casey has two strikes with one strike left. Casey didn’t have any pride or smirking on his face anymore, now he was just filled with hatefulness in his eyes. He strikes out and loses the game. I think the mood is disappointing because they all got their hopes up, and he was the only chance of winning, but sadly he failed and everyone was disappointed.
ReplyDeleteI think the second poem,”The Eagle,” by Alfred Lord Tennyson, is about a eagle who takes off on a cliff and rises near the sun, all by himself with no food. When it said, “ The wrinkled sea beneath him crawl; He watches from his mountain walls; And like a thunderbolt he falls.” I think it means that that he is like the king of the skies who is searching for fish in the sea.
I chose “Casey At Bat” because it was it had a great rhyme scheme. It was also very true, because sometimes the things we are most hopeful for can still have a disappointment. I really loved the part where the umpire said that it was a strike and crowd went out of control, that part even made me laugh.
