Readers,
As a voracious reader, I love discussing books with other lovers of literature. I have joined book clubs, emailed with friends, and sat down over many meals where the conversation turned to what everyone was reading. Books are a part of my life.
However, I have noticed I have certain friends who never fail to disappoint me with their EXCELLENT recommendations. I finally figured out why they are so great at this life skill ...
When recommending a book to me, they give a concise, precise summary of the book. Their summary consists of the main characters, the setting, and the problem. They use literary elements to explain what the book is about!
I would like for you to write a short summary about the fiction book you are reading, including characters, setting, and the plot (problem/action). Assume I have not read the book and be sure to edit your work.
Here is an example from Ida B.
Ida B
Ida B is about a young girl who lives with her mom and dad on a farm. She is home schooled after an unpleasant experience in kindergarten. She lives a happy life, using her imagination to play on the farm and with her pets. Sadly, her mother gets cancer and Ida B's life is turned upside down. She is heart-broken! She must return to school, where she makes a decision to change into a person with a cold, hard heart.

Brian is a kid who was stranded.He was really wanting to go see his dad.but the pilot had a heart attack and his plane crashed.So he survived in the wilderness.then in 54 days a plane rescued him.
ReplyDeleteA book I have enjoyed is Danny The Champion Of The World. At the start Danny loses his mother, so it is him and his dad. The problem is his dad falls in a hole in Hazell's wood.Danny comes trying to find him. This book is interesting and fun. Hope you like it.

ReplyDeleteIn this book Abby and Jonah go through their magic mirror in their basement and end up in the fairytale Aladdin. Like all fairytales they go into they mess up some of the fairytale and now they have to fix the problems they caused. They also have to find a way to get home. This book is a great book and through out the whole book I had a mental movie in my head.
I'm reading this book called The Report Card. Nora is a 11 year old girl that has a secret that she is super smart. When she gets her first report card her world goes upside down. She purposely got bad grades and her parents get mad and they have a meeting and she didn't know it would go this far and everyone calls her name until she stands up to a bully now everyone knows her secret. ReplyDeleteIn Amulet there is a girl. A normal girl but what she does not know is she has a fool petaemchel. She can rule the hole city. If you think that is cool you should read this book just so you know it is a comacbook.
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

Harry Potter is a young boy how has a lot magical powers and goes to a school called Hogwarts for young witches and wizards, but there is a problem their is a killer on the lose and he is after Harry.

ReplyDeleteFlip Side is gymnastics novel about a 5 time gold medalist Shawn Johnson. Her adventure is about all her gymnastics life. When Shawn was little she went to gymnastics every day. When Shawn got older she realizes she is a really good gymnast. When she was 17 she tried out for the olympic women's gymnastics team. Shawn made the team but right before she broke her ACL. Shawn could not compete in the next 2 olympics. When Shawn finally got out of her cast she was better than ever. Shawn became the best gymnast in the world. Shawn got 5 gold medals and is still a gymnast today.
A really good book I read was The BFG. The BFG is about a little girl. There is also The BFG. The BFG lives with a lot of other monsters.The BFG is not treated fairly. The BFG blows good dreams into children's houses. The other giants eat little boys and girls. The BFG picks up the girl. The girl and the BFG make a great team.

ReplyDeleteDiary of a wimpy kid is about a middle school kid named Greg. Greg has a very weird life and things never go his way. He lives at his house with his mom, dad,little brother,and his older brother. Greg's best friend is named Rowley. Greg needs a little help with his life. He got snowed in with his annoying little brother, his mom, and his older brother.Greg not purposely vandalized the school with Rowley and he was the only one that got blamed. Those are just two of his problems he has a lot more read the book to find out.
A great book I have read is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It is about a boy named Harry Potter and his adventure at Hogwarts. At the start Harry Has to figure out a way to get his Hogwarts things and get a ticket for the train. Then Ron asks him if he wants to come with him because the people who take care of Harry are mean. Then Harry goes with ron to Hogwarts. At Harry's time at Hogwarts he finds a lot of interesting things. Including a person he doesn't like.

ReplyDeleteCharlotte's Web is about a pig named Wilbur who gets saved from slaughter by a girl named Fern. Fern cared so deeply about Wilbur that she treated him as her own baby. One day, Fern's father said she couldn't keep him any longer because he was getting to big. Fern loved him way to much to do that though. So, Fern's father sold Wilbur to his brother in-law. Wilbur didn't think this was the best arrangement, but he was glad that Fern still visited him. But soon, Wilbur's new friends told Wilbur that the farmer was only keeping him until December because he was going to roast him for Christmas dinner. Wilbur was so afraid! He started to beg for help to keep him past Christmas. When Wilbur meets a anonymous friend, his whole world changed. Hallie

ReplyDeleteNinth Ward is about a young girl named Lanesha. Lanesha's mother died.The rest of her family is afraid of Lanesha because, she sees other things other people do not. Now Mama Yaya, a fairly old woman is Lanesha's caretaker. TaShon, Lanesha's best friend toward the end. He almost lives at their house. They live in a old house in Ninth Ward, New Orleans. There all face many problems. But the two big ones are Hurricane Katrina is coming and Mama Yaya is about to die. Gadley they all survive. But only Mama Yaya knows whats coming... it's a flood. As waters rise will hope survive?
I am reading a book called Treasure Hunters. It is a book about these kids who their dad is a famous.But when falls overboard in a storm and now they have to take control of the boat. Like I said their dad is a treasure hunter so they have to deep see diving and what they didn't know was that there was a whole tone of treasure and gold coins. They took it all back to the ship. They talked about it and they said they were going to trade it all in for real money, and next thing they know they have billions of dollars.
ReplyDeleteA really good book I read was One Dead Spy. It's set in 1776 during the revolutionary war. It's about a spy who is about to be hung when The Big Book of American History comes and eats him , and when he comes out he tells the story of the revolutionary war.
ReplyDeleteA really awesome book i read was Katie, Batter up from the series cupcake diaries. It is about a girl named Katie and all her friends are really good at sports.. and she is not. She really wants to learn how to play soccer so she can be on the team with her friends, Mia and Alexis. when they were at Mia's house Dan was there throwing balls in the backyard. When Dan's friend threw a ball, Katie catched it and threw it back. Katie just learned her secret skill, Softball.

It's about a girl named Raina who "loses" her front teeth and has to go to to middle school and deal with her friends that call her a vampire and other things. Soon enough she deals with high school and worst of all braces but this time things change.
ReplyDeleteIn the book The One and Only Ivan there a gorilla named Ivan that has a life in a mall sitting in a cage watching the kids and parents walk by and look,stare,ahh,jump with excitement, and try to hug him through the the thick clear wall.I his cage he has a run down TV, an old crack kitty pool. The walls are painted like a jungle.He thinks his life is great,but when the mall runs down it gets boring. He has a lot of friends but he has one that is very close. She is an elephant and gets very old and can't do a lot of stuff anymore. When the mall runs down they get a new addion to the mall. A baby elephant. Ivan wats the poor baby elephant to live in zoo.It has been Ivans dream to go to a zoo. When something happens to Stella,the elephant I vans goal is to get everybody to a zoo.
ReplyDeleteA book I read was called Diary of a wimpy kid Dog days. It is about a boy named Gregory. It is his summer Break. He goes to his friends country club. But he has to pay 83 dollars because he bought a ton of fruit smoothies on his friend's dad account. Then he gets kicked out of his friends country club.
ReplyDeleteI suggest reading Big Nate Game On by Lincoln Peirce. This book is about a boy named Nate who is in sixth grade, and plays sports. His friends name's are Teddy, Chad, and Francis. In this book Nate plays soccer, baseball, and basketball. In soccer Nate plays goalie. In baseball Nate plays right fielder, and a little pitcher. In basketball Nate is a point guard, but not a good one. I suggest you read Big Nate Game On.
ReplyDeleteA book I enjoyed was Eagle Down. Eagle Down is a story about a military team called the Shadow Squad. that stops international emergencies. They go into Columbia to stop these guys from bringing drugs to the U.S.A. But there specialist in technology gets taken hostage needs to escape. If you wanna know more the book also there are more books under the shadow squad series.

Ada then finds out her 6 year old brother, Jamie is going away somewhere safe out of London! Ada decides to sneak off with him. Ada does pull it off but when they arrive to the gathering nobody wants them. When the controller sees that Ada can't walk she immediately takes them to a woman named Ms. Smith. When they go to the doctor for the first in their life they find out Ada has a disease! Read this great book to find out what happens!
I read a book called Middle School Worst Years Of My Life. its about a boy named Rafe who is in middle school and wants to brake every rule. But there is a bully named Miller the Killer who beats Rafe up all the time, and takes his lunch money. He also goes by a code R.A.F.E. RULES AREN'T FOR EVERYONE. He put up sticky notes on the walls that said RULES AREN'T FOR EVERYONE. He also painted a wall with what ever he could. He broke to many rules and got expelled and sent to a art school. He had a friend named Leo who was imaginary, but was alive and died of sickness at the age of three.
ReplyDeleteA really good book that I've read is Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. The book is about a really poor girl who lives in China with her mom and dad. Every night her dad tells her ancient stories. one night he tells her of a ancient guy named the man on the moon who grants wishes. One day a man who sells goldfish comes to the village where the girl lives, and even though she only has two coins she buys one. that night when her mom and dad come home from the fields her mom is really mad because that was all their money and wishes she had a lot of money. That night the girl sets off to find the man on the moon.
ReplyDeleteA good book I recommend is Esio Trot. It's about a man who lives in England above a women in an apartment with her pet turtle. The woman's turtle is so small, and she really wants him to grow. since she is always telling her neighbor this he the man comes up with a plan he makes up that if you tell a turtle something backwards it will grow faster so he comes up with an ingenious plan that includes lots and lots of turtles.

He named him captain cook he ends up getting another penguins greta and they have 10 more penguins in the end Mr popper moves to the North pole and sadly leaves his family behind

So he has to live with his mean uncle, aunt, and his spoiled cousin Dudley. Then he gets a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. After that he gets all his wizard stuff including an owl named Hedwig. So he goes to Hogwarts and faces the biggest problem of his life.
