Dear students,
I had a wonderful time volunteering with you and your families at the Nashville Women's Rescue Mission. I learned a lot about myself as well as the importance of giving back to the community. Volunteering takes more than showing up for a few hours. It takes preparation, planning, action, and, now, reflecting. I want you to reflect about your time spent at the Nashville Rescue Mission. Please answer the following questions:
- What was your role(s) at the Nashville Women's Rescue Mission? How did you contribute?
- What was your favorite part(s) of our service project and WHY?
- Name some connections you made during your time at the Nashville Women's Rescue Mission.
- What is something new you learned from this experience? Be specific! Also, were you surprised by anything you saw or heard?
Please make sure you answered each bullet point before you publish your comment. Double check your comment for punctuation/spelling mistakes. Your comment must be at least 5 sentences.
I cannot wait to hear about your day.
You teacher,
Ms. B
I loved working in the garden and in the kuchen. The thing that supervised me is that most of there faveret things are my faveret things too! The only thing I was not liking is that we piked up rooks and weeds and one of the weeds had spikes and hurt. So that was my time.
ReplyDeleteI felt that my role was to talk to the people there and to let them know that God loves them. I liked serving the food to them because it made me feel good to know that they would have a good meal. I can make a connection with them and a refugee family I help. They both need a place to stay, food, and people who care about them. I learned that to us that simple meal may not seem like much. But to them it means a lot. I was surprised that most of the women eating were teens.

I felt better doing it with my friends and it was fun.
ReplyDeleteWhat we did for hearts of service day, was the Nashville Women's Rescue Mission. I first picked up rocks to help the garden grow a lot better. Then I went to the dining area and gave out food and put plates on the bowls of soup. I felt really good that all the people were happy. I thought that the people were really nice and were very happy to see us. Over all I think that the Nashville Women's Rescue Mission was a great field trip.

ReplyDeleteToday for hearts of service I went the Nashville Women's Rescue. I served food and and cleaned the garden. My favorite part was when we served the food because we also got to talk with some of the people. I did not make any connections. ReplyDeleteI contributed today by picking up rocks and puling out the weeds in the ground and the dead plants. Then we all went over to the cafeteria and served the people there and then talked to them. And some of us brought some treats for them to eat and so while they ate we asked if they needed anything else. And then my favorite part of the mission was probable serving them and asking if they needed any thing else. And some of my connections were that I have asked someone if they ever needed something. And something I was surprised to hear was that the night before they had 203 people stay at the Nashville womens Rescue mission.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I did at the Nashville Women s Rescue Mission was I picked up rocks and other trash I found on the ground in the garden. It was freezing cold out side that day I don't know how homeless people can stand it. Then we went inside and I felt a breeze of smelly hot air rushing tords my face from the air vent. We washed our hands and went down stars to the cafeteria. When we got to it we stood in a line and got hair nets , aprons, and gloves. Then we got in the assembly line and started to make the trays , my job was to put Mayans and mustered on the plates. The lunch was turkey or ham sandwiches , gumbo , chips , any dessert you wanted. Then at the end there was left over desserts so we each got one. I think from this experience I learnd of how blessed I rely am.
ReplyDeleteMy roles in the Nashville Rescue Mission was to pick up rocks out of the flower beds. My second role was to serve them their lunch. My favorite parts of the mission was interacting with the women, and being with my friends. Because I got to find out how lucky we are to be in a loving home. I made a connection with a lady who was hungry I was hungry. Something I learned from this was that you become closer to God, because God will love you always. I was very surprised that the people where happy.
ReplyDeleteI worked in the garden and served lunch. We got rocks and other things that would stop the garden from growing. I talked with women while they were eating.
ReplyDeleteI liked talking with women. There were really nice.
Some of the women liked some of the things I like. For example they liked football like me.
I learned that just because you don't have a lot you don't have to hate life. These ladies were great examples of that.
Today for hearts of service we went to the Nashville Rescue Mission. What really liked about that place was serving them food, and of course our treats. When Francie and I asked this women if she needed anything else, she was praying with her friends. When I saw that, it really warmed my heart. It felt really good doing all of those things for those people, because they are homeless. Even though we might have gotten dirt on us, it was worth picking up the rocks, weeds and trash. When left the Nashville Rescue Mission, I know that there are people out there who are not as fortunate as us. That was what I did at the Nashville Rescue Mission for hearts of service.
ReplyDeleteI went all around the property picking up lots of trash. I also served the food and drinks. I saw that there are lots of people who stay there just like some other places in Nashville. I learned there are over 300 homeless people who live in Nashville. Hearts of Service day this year was really fun.
ReplyDeleteI worked outside picking up the trash and worked in the cafeteria. My favorite part was working in the cafeteria because I got to interact with some of the women. I met a little boy named Daniel in the cafeteria. I learned that they don't really know about the results of smoking and I was surprised about their voices.
ReplyDeleteMy roles for the Nashville rescue mission were the gardens and serving food. It felt good to help others. Jack.E and I talked to these two women and they were so nice to us. When I was serving I felt like I was stepping up my game and being nice. When we were picking up trash I felt really good to help clean the area . When we were cleaning I knew that they would appreciate that we were doing this. When we were there I thought that we were being very nice and helpful.

ReplyDeleteI had a lot of fun at the Nashville Women's Rescue Mission. It was a lot different then I thought it would be. I got to work in the garden and serve food. It was really fun walking around talking with my friends and also cleaning the garden. I loved working in the kitchen it was so fun I got to put the gumbo into the bowls. I was laughing and talking with my classmates around me. I loved when we were each aloud to pick a dessert and I devoured my cupcake it was so good! I was supprised to see that they were all wearing clothes like me. Some of their clothing items I really liked! I loved working at the Nashville Women's Rescue Mission and I hope I can do it again. I hope that other people will do that to help our community.
ReplyDeleteAt the Nashville Rescue Mission I contributed to serving people food by having a conversation with them and asking if I could help them in any way. My favorite part was when we served the food and dessert because we really got to interact with them and realize how fortunate we are to have a warm meal and be blessed with shelter, I didn't realize how much I take that for granted. Some connections I made was that......I talked to a girl and she said that her two children were at her parents house, I have done that but not for the same reason. Something I learned was that we take many things for granted like a home cooked meal, clean water, shelter, clothing, toys, and having a bed. I have learned a lot from having this experience and I have a lot of impathy for those people. I am going to make sure not to take those things for granted.
ReplyDeleteToday when I went to the N.R.M. I weeded, and picked up rocks out of the garden. I also served food. My favorite part was eating a cupcake at the end. I did not have any connections. I learned that it can be fun helping people.

ReplyDeleteit felt so good to help all the laddies and there chilaeren. I helped by picking up trash and sreving the food. When I was there I saw a very cute little boy I asked his mom how old he was and what was his name she said his name was Daniel and he was 2. I helped one of the laddies by taking her tray. The place was not a lot like I thout it was going to be like. I saw where all the people got there clothing it was a room with close on racks. Volunteering was so fun and to see all the smiling face made me happy I would love to come back!

ReplyDeleteSorry I published two. Something weird happend with my computer.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed working at the National Women's Rescue team. I served lunch and I also Picked up trash around the community. My favorite part of the service project probably was serving lunch because when i set it down in front of the women, they would look up at me , smile, and say,"Thank you very much." I would feel a rush of love go through my heart as I smiled back at them. I feel bad because most of them don't deserve to be treated like this, and I'm glad we were fortunate enough to go help them and to be of sign of God that they were loved. I made a connection with a young women who loved children but didn't have any of her own. She had a wide smile and a dark blue jacket. She looked sad although she acted as of nothing was wrong. It made me feel bad for her, because she didn't deserve this. I learned that some people smoked or spat tobacco in the building. I realized that they don't mean to do it, it's just a habit. I really enjoyed spending time with these incredible women, it really inspired me.
ReplyDeleteThis morning I went to the Nashville Rescue Mission. When I went there my roles there were picking up plants and rocks, also I served the people. My favorite part was serving the people because I got to interact and start conversations with new people. I liked serving also because I got to were things that I don't normally were like the hair nets and the aprons that were plastic. Some connections I made were that we are more fortunate than they are. We are a little more blessed and have more than them. Something new I learned is that lots of men and women stay there if it is real hot or cold. I was surprised by some things they have. This is what I did today at the mission.
ReplyDeleteI felt like my role was to help feed the women and children. I loved seeing the faces of these pople when we surved them. I loved it when I piked the weeds and found rocks because When I walked out of that garden I felt like I had just walked acrosse niagra falls on a tight rope knowing I did something great.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first arrived at the NWRM I saw the women and children outside in the cold. I felt bad for them and wanted to help. When I heard that we were going to the garden I felt like I was helping and changing the world for the better. I then served the ladies lunch and dessert.
