Readers,
As a voracious reader, I love discussing books with
other lovers of literature. I have joined book clubs, emailed with
friends, and sat down over many meals where the conversation turned to
what everyone was reading. Books are a part of my life.
However,
I have noticed I have certain friends who never fail to disappoint me
with their EXCELLENT recommendations. I finally figured out why they are
so great at this life skill ...
When recommending a book to me,
they give a concise, precise summary of the book. Their summary consist
of the main characters, the setting, and the problem and solution,
otherwise known as, the plot. They use LITERARY ELEMENTS to explain what
the book is about!
I would like for you to write a short summary about the fiction book you are reading, including characters, setting, and the plot (problem/solution). Assume I have not read the book and be sure to edit your work.
Here is an example from Ida B.
Ida B is
about a young girl, who lives with her mom and dad on a farm and is
home schooled after an unpleasant experience at school. She lives a
happy life, using her imagination to play on the farm and with her pets.
Sadly, her mother gets cancer and Ida B's life is turned upside down
and she is heart-broken. She must return to school and she makes a
decision to change into a person with a cold, hard heart.

The book I am reading is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling.It talks about Harry Potter returning to Hogwarts, The School of Magic. Suddenly, before he leaves he gets a warning from a house gnome called Dobby that trouble is coming to Hogwarts and that he can not go there this year. But, Harry Potter still goes and trouble truly came.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book The Trumpet of the Swan. It is about a boy named Sam, and a little trumpeter swan that can't say anything. The trumpeter swans name is Louis. One day Louis's father goes out to a music store and stole a trumpet so that Louis could blow it to try to talk. Louis starts to fell bad that his father had stolen the trumpet, and wants to pay the man back with money,but he does not have any money. Louis goes to Sam and asked him what to do. Sam said that maybe he could get a job. Louis got a job at a camp to blow his trumpet to wake up the boys in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI read The Forest of Silence. The main characters are Lief and Barda. The problem is that the evil Shadow Lord has come to invade the land of Deltora. The only way Deltora can be saved is the magic belt with seven gems. The evil Shadow Lord has stolen the seven gems and has gotten a evil spirit to guard the seven stones. When Lief and Barda get to The Forest Of Silence they walk in and get to meet a type of creature named Jasmine that will try to help them. Will Lief and Barda stay alive the deadly Forest of Silence.
ReplyDeleteScary Stories 3 has a lot of characters in each story. It is by Alvin Schwartz. Ruth is a girl in one of the stories. She was in her house in the bathroom. Her mom thinks that she has a spider bite, but really it was a spider that had laid eggs in her cheek. It burst out of her cheek and exploded everywhere.
ReplyDeleteThe book I am reading is Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules.It is about a boy named Greg who has two brothers named Rodrick and Manny. It takes place at their home and school The problem is that they are always getting Greg in to trouble. The solution is that Greg's mom makes up this thing called Mom bucks. It is were if you hang out with your brother for an hour you earn 10 mom bucks. Now Greg and Rodrick are getting along better. It is a great book.
ReplyDeleteCarter a 12 year old boy travels with his dad because his mom died and he had to be separated from his sister Sadie who lives in London with their grandparents and they can only see each other twice a year! When Carter sees his sister again their dad takes them to the British museum and their dad ends up blowing up the Rossetta stone and in the prosses blowing the whole museum up and summoning a fiery person who kidnaps their dad!

ReplyDeleteThe book I am reading is called Caroline. Caroline a 12 year old girl lives on a shipyard with her mother and father. One day Caroline, her father, and her two cousins are out sailing. Then a British ship approaches and takes Caroline's father and cousin prisoner! Caroline, her mother, and her grandmother have to run the shipyard why the war is going on.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Spiderwick Chronicles: Book 5. Simon, Mallory,and Jared came back from the goblins and came home and tried to explain to their mom that the got kidnapped by the goblins and she believed them. They thought they were free, but Mugarath came back.
ReplyDeleteHarry, Ron, AND Hermione are on the run from HE-WHO-MUST-NOT-BE-NAMED. harry said the name and now they have been captured and taken to The Malfoys. The blue light in dumdledores deluminator. Harry is not sure if it will help. Someone speical comes up in the un-escappel dungean.
ReplyDeleteThe book I am reading is Wish Stealers by Tracy Trivas. This book is based on the main character, Griffin. At the beginning Griffin and her family are hit by a tornado! Griffin is very aware of this happening. She soon goes to her school after summer break. She get's to see her friend Libby. She has been waiting for summer break to be over. In the middle of the book she meet a lady that she doesn't now very well. But this lady gives her some of her most prize things that she wanted to give to someone very special one day. Then that lady dies. Then she soon becomes in a band and then lives great.

The book that I am reading is " Harry Potter, The Prisonor af Azkaban." This boom is by J.K Rowling. This about Harry Potter's 3 year at Hogwarts. This book has lots of Cliff hangers, and exictment. They are going to try and find a prisoner of azkaban. His name is Sirius Black. Read this book to see if they find him!
ReplyDeleteThe book I am reading is called School of Fear. It is about a group of kids with a bunch of fears. Madiline is afraid of spiders and insects. Lulu is afraid of confined spaces. Theo is afraid of death. Grassion is afraid of big body of waters. Last, Hyhy is afraid of being alone. Their parents send them to a school that should help them with their fears, but it doesn't. So they go back for a second year, and they over come there fears a bit more, but not all the way!

In the book Ramona is not scared of any thing but some times she is scared things. The book is mostly about Ramona and that she is scared of any thing and some times she is.

The book I am reading is When Hitler stole pink rabbit by Judith Kerr. This book is about a girl named Anna who lives in Germany. The elections are coming up and Hitler is one of the candidates. Anna's father writes about Hitler in a not-very-nice way. That's what he does for a living. Anna, Max, the mom, and the dad have to leave Germany, and go to Switzerland because of Hitler and the elections. Hitler said if anyone spoke or wrote things that were against him,they'd do something terrible. Anna soon meets lots of friends in Switzerland and has a good time. But in 6 weeks time, they'll have to go back to Germany.
ReplyDeleteI am reading a book called Confetti girl and it is about a girl and she collects socks and makes stuff out of them. She does not have a mother because she died and her father reads all the time so he won't think about his wife. Also she finally asks her dad to get over there mom and not spent there whole life in a bunny hole and so they decided to get out more and play with there friends.
ReplyDeleteThe book i`m reading is called Fablehaven rise of the Evening Star by Brandon Mull. this is a book about two kids named Kendra and Seth. They go to there grandparents house in a place called Fablehaven. The plot is that there are secret ardafacts that Kendra, Seth, Grandma, and Grandpa must find before some one else. People that like Fantasy will like this book.
ReplyDeleteThe book that I am sharing with you is called Hatchet By Gary Paulsen. Its main character is Brian. His parents are divorced, and he is flying to visit his father on a single engine plane when the pilot has a heart attack and the plane after a while goes down. Brian however manuevers the plane for a crash landing in a lake he has to use every thing he has got to survive.
ReplyDeleteI am reading Wishbone The Stolen Trophy. The main characters are Wishbone and David. It takes place at his friends house. There was a trophy that was old. It was a basketball trophy. The next day it was gone, so he went out side and found tracks. He thinks it is his friend that stole it.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the book Stargirl. This book is about a new girl at school who has been very shy and she is a little bit weird. She dances on the football field while the game was still going. It is a very good book in my opinion. She sings "Happy Birthday" to the people on their birthday. This one girl named Hillari Kimble and she hates Stargirl. Stargirl has a pet rat. Hillari Kimble dangled Stargirl's rat over the edge of the stair way.

I'm reading I got a "D" in Salami by Henry Winkler. If you like comedy and fiction this is just right for you. The main characters are Hank, Buttons the cat, and his parents.The secondary characters are Hanks friends, his aunt, and his uncle. The setting is in New York in his apartment and his school. Hank HATES SCHOOL, and the day comes when he gets bad grades. Later that day hank gets his grades shreaded up in a meat grinder.
ReplyDeleteThe book I am reading is The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria Forester. The book is about Piper who has been flying sense she was a baby. Now she wants to know how to fly on the Lowland County farm,but right as she figures out how to fly she can is not aloud to. So when she goes to her first picnic with other kids she tries not to fly,but if you now Piper you would know that she already has a big problem with keeping her feet on the ground. So when Piper tries to catch a fly ball in baseball. She is the on who ends up flying...Piper.

Wayside School is a fiction book about all the things that happen around the school and each chapter has a new little story about the students. There are no main characters in Wayside school everyone gets the same amount of time as everyone else but Mrs. Jewls shows up most often because she is the teacher and she shows up on every chapter. The plot is in all the classrooms, outside, and in the lunchroom. The problem is that a student falls out of the window the solution is that a boy runs from the play ground and leaps over a fence and catches her before she hits the ground.
ReplyDeleteThe book I am reading is Wayside School Gets A Little Stranger by Louis Sachar. It is about a school that is really wild and crazy. The main characters are Deedee, Ron, D.J., Jenny, Mac, Joy, Sharie, Joe, Benjamin, Calvin, Kathy, John, Maurcia, Rondi, Myron, Allison, Jason, Dameon, Paul, Leslie, Terrence, Eric Fry, Eric Bacon, Eric Ovens, Dana, Bebe, Todd, and Stephen. All the chapters are about a little mystery or joke, for example the last one they had to shove pie into a persons face. Usaully the setting is in Mrs. Jewls class or on the playground or on the 30 flights of stairs. The next one is about ears! So if you like funny books you should try this one!
ReplyDeleteThe book I am reading is called,"The Magician." It is from the series,"The Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel." The main characters are Nicholas Flamel, Sophie, Josh, and Scathatch. They are running away from Niccolo Machiavelli who wants to kill them! Niccolo creates a tulpa (a type of creature made totaly from imagination) to slow them down, but they kill it and run out of the church. Then Machiavelli tries to attack them, so they make a lot of fog roll in so they can escape.
